The Appeal
This 1967 Lancia Fulvia 1300 Rallye S S1 forms part of the carefully curated Blaauwbank collection that includes an eclectic mix of multi-generational cars, a selection of rare and interesting vehicles, carefully stored in purpose-built, climate-controlled dry storage hangars, located in the arid climate of Central South Africa.
The Lancia Fulvia Rallye S is one of the most celebrated four-cylinder sports coupés of all time, combining lightweight construction and nimble front-wheel drive handling with elegant Italian styling. This example is exceptionally rare as a factory-built right-hand drive Series 1 Rallye S from 1967, featuring the desirable pre-Fiat merger build quality with aluminium alloy bolt-on panels and distinctive bucket buttress seats that were eliminated in later cost-cutting measures.
Purchased new in 1967 by Mr. Cox of Bloemfontein, South Africa, it remained with him until his passing, after which it was discovered in his lock-up garage, having been stored in the dry climate 1,600m above sea level. The car has recently undergone a comprehensive recommissioning by a marque expert, including a full engine rebuild with new internals and careful overhaul of the hydraulic and fuel systems.
The vendor says:
"Recent recommissioning has seen the little V4 sing its song again, and what a pretty song it is, sweet and melodious, the engine was fully rebuilt with brand new internals, the hydraulic and fuel systems were also carefully overhauled, by a marque expert. "
