The Appeal
Originating from an era when build quality, engineering and Mercedes-Benz elegance were benchmarks, the W108 remains one of the brand’s greatest successes. This 1967 example is a 280 SE powered by a 2.8-litre inline-six developing 160 bhp, fed by Bosch mechanical fuel injection.
Its provenance is particularly interesting as it is one of the rare examples assembled at the former Movauto factory in Setúbal, Portugal, a site that ceased activity in 1992.
Owned by a single owner since it was first registered — a former industrialist from Covilhã — this 280 SE is presented as a well-preserved Portuguese exemplar. The seller states that the car runs smoothly and delivers a comfortable drive, with all mechanical components inspected by a former Mercedes-Benz technician now retired.
