1967 Triumph GT6 Convertible

Highlights

  • Retrimmed leather seats
  • 2-litre 6-cylinder
  • GT6 conversion to convertible fully certified

The Appeal

The GT6 has the 2-litre 6-cylinder engine, great looks combined with overdrive in 3rd and 4th gear making it a true drivers car and to this day still feels brisk and performance focused.  This example also has the benefit of being converted to a roadster for the ultimate open top experience.

The History & paperwork

  • MOT June 2023
  • Paperwork charting history of vehicle
The current owner has had the vehicle in their possession for just over two years and enjoyed the cars punchy 2-litre 6-cylinder engine, it is being sold now to fund a racing car project. In 1981 the car was converted from GT6 to a convertible using a Spitfire Mk4 body with a fibreglass tub, so no rot or welding has been done to the bodywork and will not cause any problems in the future.
This was a professional conversion and signed off and certified by an engineering company, the V5 shows that it is now registered as a GT6 convertible and a letter of authentication is provided to confirm this.
The paperwork covers various receipts and restoration over the years from a number of garages, the car comes with an MOT valid until June 2023. In 2017 and 2018 the previous owner had a complete overhaul of the cars mechanics and the invoices are included and shown in the gallery totalling over £3000.

The Interior

  • Retrimmed leather seats
  • Electronic ignition
The interior of the car is in good order, the recently retrimmed black leather seats are a nice contrast with the vibrant red paintwork. The dashboard is free of any marks and the switchgear all operate, door sills are clean and all handles and levers operate freely.
The boot area has been re-carpeted and a spare wheel and tool kit are present. A tonneau cover is also included and in very good condition. A modern Sony CD tuner is fitted and fully operational.

The Exterior

  • Fiberglass GT6 bonnet and boot-lid
The car is generally in good condition, due to the nature of the fibreglass material on the boot and bonnet the red paintwork looks a slightly different shade in bright sunlight. The main area to note is that two cracks are present on the bonnet, these are around 20mm and 30mm in width.
There is a small dent in the drivers door and a small pin dent on the rear off side wing. The rest of the car is clean and the black soft top hood is in good order.
Tyres have good tread and the four wheels are clean of any marks. Chrome work is clean as is the windscreen and rear panel on the hood.

The Mechanics

  • Recently serviced
  • MOT June 2023
  • Spax adjustable shock absorbers
The GT6 has had an extensive overhaul of its major components to make it a more dynamic and satisfying car to drive. Spax adjustable shocks provide a more compliant ride and allow the driver to set the car up as they wish.
The car has a characterful high performance exhaust fitted along with twin SU carbs (from a Dolomite Sprint), servo upgrade to the brakes and electronic ignition.
A recent MOT in June gave the car a pass with some advisories to the rear tyres with reference to cracking or perishing and a slight imbalance to the brakes.

Summary

A true British sports car with upgrades to make this feel a more modern and engaging roadster. The addition of the convertible conversion makes this a unique car and with the fibre glass additions makes the car lighter and also trouble free for years to come in terms of maintenance.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
