1968 Jaguar 420G

Highlights

  • Right-hand drive example, registered in France
  • In the same family ownership since 1976, approximately 50 years
  • Matching serial numbers noted
  • The vendor reports the red leather interior is in good condition
  • Part of a private collection

The Appeal

The Jaguar 420G sits at the summit of the Mark X lineage; a grand, imposing saloon powered by a 4.2-litre XK engine and equipped with independent rear suspension. Produced in relatively modest numbers between 1966 and 1970, the 420G has become an increasingly sought-after classic Jaguar, prized for its blend of refinement and presence.
This 1968 right-hand drive example is finished in grey over a red leather interior. It was first registered in the UK before being imported to France in 1976, where it has remained with the same family ever since as part of a private collection.
This is unambiguously a restoration project. The engine is seized, the carburettors have been dismantled, and the paintwork, believed to be original, is in need of renewal. Some remedial work is also required on a rear door. That said, with nearly 50 years of single-family provenance and a reportedly well-preserved interior, this 420G offers a compelling foundation for a worthwhile restoration.
