The Appeal
The 1950s and early '60s were Jaguar's golden age. The XK sports car range, Mk1 and Mk2 saloons and E-Type were some of the finest road cars money could buy, while the C-Type and D-Type dominated on the race track.
The Jaguar D-Type is one of the most successful racing cars ever built, its three consecutive Le Mans victories between 1955 and 1957 cementing its place in motorsport history. With original examples now commanding seven-figure sums and rarely changing hands, high-quality recreations offer a compelling route to experiencing the D-Type's character, and this Revival Motorsport example is a fine proposition.
Showing just 4,146 miles on the clock, this D-Type recreation has been in the care of a single registered keeper since the build was completed. It has been stored throughout its life in a purpose-built garage, and the vendor describes its bodywork, paintwork and mechanical condition as being in very good order. Servicing has been entrusted to Collin Groom Classic Car Restorations near Ipplepen in Devon.
We're told this car never fails to attract attention when it does venture out. For those seeking a faithful tribute to one of motorsport's greatest machines, combining period presence with the reliability of a professionally engineered modern build, this single-keeper, this beautifully-kept replica is sure to fit the bill.DSC04676.jpg3.06 MB
History and Paperwork
Uses a Jaguar 420 G base car, still registered as such with the DVLA
4,146 miles showing on the odometer, reset to zero during the build
Servicing carried out by Collin Groom Classic Car Restorations near Ipplepen, Devon
MOT/road tax exempt, last MOT expired February 2026
No MOT advisories recorded since completion of the build; 0 advisories on Gov system back to October 2012 at 6 miles
Fibreglass construction over tubular steel space-frame chassis
Finished to a very high standard with close attention paid to period-correct details
The vendor describes the bodywork and paint as being in very good order, attributed to careful garaged storage throughout its life
Shows minimal wear throughout, commensurate with ultra-low mileage since completion
Wire wheels fitted with Toyo tyres
The word replica is often misused. There isn't a Toyota MR2 lurking underneath this shapely body; it's all Jaguar, and the result is a car that not only looks like a D-Type - it feels, sounds, and even smells like the real deal. The body is of GRP construction while replicating minute period details like the copious domed rivets and leather bonnet straps. Underneath lies a bespoke space-frame chassis, just like the one that made the D-Type so ruthlessly effective in period.
As the photographs attest, the standard of finish is excellent, and the car shows minimal signs of use having covered so few miles and having been stored so carefully in the care of a sole keeper since completion of the build. The colour suits the period perfectly and is pleasingly understated for what is, in every other respect, a striking machine.
Four-speed manual with electric overdrive on 4th gear
The vendor describes the mechanical condition as very good
Reported to offer an engaging driving experience
Impeccable under-bonnet presentation
Reported to drive beautifully
Jaguar's XK engine is one of the most successful powerplants of the 20th century. Designed in the dying days of the Second World War, it served the marque until 1992, offering immense performance despite its relatively modest displacement thanks to the use of twin overhead camshafts. In 4.2-litre form, the XK offered immense torque, which we're informed is used to great effect here in this ultra-lightweight D-Type replica.
Mechanically fresh with just over 4,000 miles covered since completion of the build, we're informed that this car drives immensely well. The addition of overdrive on 4th gear means motorway cruising is also possible - perfect for the road trips down to Le Mans we hope the new owner will be looking to embark upon. Had one of these before. They are great cars. I’d love another one! As the DVLA still think it’s a Jaguar 420, were you thinking of getting it IVA tested and registered as a Realm? Or D type replica etc?

Glad you like it—they really are fantastic cars! I don't have any plans to undertake the IVA process or update the logbook myself; the vehicle will be handed over to the winning bidder in its current state and V5 to take forward as they see fit.
