The Appeal
Arguably one of the most iconic cars ever built in Britain, the MK2 is every bit as British as the Mini or the legendary E-Type. It's the sort of handsome saloon that conjures up the likes of bowler hats and pinstripe suits, as it does impressive sports performance - all of which it's more than earned. Executive comfort, top-notch performance - a car that covers every base with distinguished character.
This Carmine Red 340 is believed to be the sixth-from-last of the MK2s to roll off the production line. restored in 1987 and purchased by the current family around 1990, showing just 13,622 miles on the clock at the time. It has remained in their care ever since—a remarkable 36 years of single ownership.
For approximately three decades, the car has been stored unused in a garage, which accounts for the modest mileage increase to just under 26,000 miles today. The vendor reports that the car is sound and very period-accurate, right down to the Ambla upholstery that was standard on 340 models, along with good woodwork and headlining.
Currently a non-runner, the engine turns over but will not fire, and the car requires recommissioning by a capable enthusiast. The vendor tells us that the HT leads etc will come with the car, the bores were filled with diesel prior to trying to turn the engine and may need draining. The vendor candidly states they lack the skills to undertake this work themselves and are seeking someone who can bring this historically significant Mk2 back to life. For the right buyer with the necessary expertise, that's no doubt a tantalising prospect. image.png1.56 MB
