The Appeal
Developing the MGB was not exactly a necessary exercise when the car was still flying out of showrooms. It was really brought about as a replacement for the Austin-Healey 3000, which was getting on in years. The British Motor Corp were all about rationalising, and adopting their most popular roadster for the purpose simply made sense to the books.
The MGC sadly was subject to a dose of good old British incompetence. Upon release, BMC had advised the incorrect tyre pressures, setting them the same as the standard MGB. Needless to say, the heavier, more powerful car found those untenable, and despite being a perfectly capable car, the first reviews and press releases were universally below expectations.
The car never recovered, and was only in production for two years. That little blunder from the company proved a very expensive one, and has led to the MGC becoming a particularly rare iteration of Britain's most popular roadster. It's more the pity - the MGC is a logical progression of its predecessor, and still carries all of that inimitable character.
This fine '68 example has been very well-maintained and sympathetically upgraded. Well-maintained previously by specialists and currently by its owner - clearly cherished, it offers a high-octane classic that's ready and waiting to go.
