The Appeal
The Morgan Plus Four is admired for its blend of vintage style and spirited performance. Introduced in 1950 with larger engines than the 4/4, it became known for lively handling, hand-built craftsmanship, and enduring British charm. By 1968, the Plus Four was nearing the end of an era, its 2138cc Triumph TR engine giving strong performance and making late examples especially sought after.
First registered in October 1968, this car is believed to be one of the last right-hand drive, two-seaters built with a TR engine. Finished in bright red with a black leather interior, it retains its wooden dashboard and factory instruments, and comes with an unusually comprehensive history file. This includes the original V.E. Registration Book, early tax and MOT records, Morgan factory order book copies, and photographs documenting major repair work in 1985.
Some cosmetic attention is required, with areas of bubbling paint and light rust noted, but overall, the car presents well. Practical features such as removable seat cushions with storage, various tops and covers, and a set of Minilite wheels add to its appeal. The engine starts and runs, and the car has recently been driven on the road (September 2025). There was recent repair work done to the rear wheels; the brake shoes were replaced, and the passenger side wheel stud was fixed. Prior to that, the car was previously driven in October 2023 and then stored inside since then. A box of miscellaneous parts and 5 spare spoked wheels will be included in the sale.
With its rare specification, detailed provenance, and classic Morgan character, this Plus Four is both a desirable collector’s piece and an engaging driver’s car.
