The Appeal
If you want a stylish classic that’s practical for four, simple to maintain and great fun to drive, then you want a Herald. The later 13/60 adds decent power to keep up with modern traffic.
Few available are likely as good as this one with such extensive recent work. It is a ‘CV’ suffix factory convertible that the vendor bought in 2021 with the aim of renovating it. That work turned into a full restoration including bodywork, repaint and full retrim. Finished in Old English White with a professionally upholstered red interior - it is a really lovely example. Neat details like a refurbished veneer dashboard, new roof and powder-coated wire wheels complete the look.
Beneath the clamshell bonnet is a reconditioned Rimmer Bros 1.3L engine. The clutch is new and the differential has been rebuilt. There is also a new wiring loom and the brakes have been fully overhauled.
The vendor report that he has never used the roof, so it requires a little adjustment. That seems a small job to complete what is a really lovely example of the very usable four seater Herald.
The vendor says:
“The original colour was blue but as I was building the car up from the bottom I decided on old English white which I think looks great. I had to replace the front bulk head, springs, shocks, basically everything. New bolts, the lot. I have a very knowledgeable friend who happens to be a professional classic car restorer and who helped throughout the project.
“This is possibly one of the straightest and rust free Triumph Heralds currently on the road. You can run a 5mm spacer along all the gaps. The only issue I have with it is the roof but I rather ignored it as I never used it. The car is a real head turner when out and about and is great fun to drive. Reason for selling having spent so much time, effort and expense? For me it is the journey of putting new life into something old. I am also a 6’2” ex rugby player and the car is a bit small for me!”
