The Appeal
The Mark X was the longest and widest Jaguar built up to that point, with those generous dimensions indicative of its role in spearheading the firm’s drive into the USA market. The 420G was introduced in 1966 and evolved the idea, being essentially a Mark X with added chrome and some interior tweaks.
With most bound for America, UK RHD 420Gs are extremely rare. Just 4,429 were built, with this car one of 1,457 to leave the Browns Lane works in 1969. Finished in dark blue with a grey leather cabin, it appears to be a complete car, but it will require restoration.
The vendor acquired it in 2009 when it was still on the road. The last MOT in 2010 shows it has covered few miles since then. It passed that test with no advisories and has been dry stored since by the current collector-keeper.
These big Jags are the epitome of the firm’s 60s saloon car era and have a firm following amongst those who have experienced them. Here is a chance to put one more back on the road where it belongs.
The vendor says:
“Project car in need (and deserving) of full restoration - it has huge potential and would make a fantastic flagship car if properly restored.”
