The Appeal
The later MkIII may be a more common sight, but it is the early Mk1 Interceptor that aficionados revere. These early cars, of which just 923 RHD autos were built, are the purest version of Jensen Chief Engineer Kevin Beattie’s vision for a sleek fastback grand tourer, one that would heavily influence all future GTs. Details like the refined front light treatment and beautiful wood-lined interior with its classic toggle switches set these cars apart.
The Mk1 is also notable for being fitted with the high compression version of Chrysler’s 6.3L V8 delivering 325bhp, considerably more than the bigger-engined later cars. This 1969 Mk1 is an original RHD 115-series car and one of 95 to leave the Kelvin Way works in white. The vendor is only the car’s seventh owner and acquired it in 2006. He tells us that the displayed mileage is correct, but this isn’t warranted.
The car would benefit from some bodywork and paintwork investment, but it does come with a useful voluntary MOT. This runs to April 2027 and shows no structural advisories. For the enthusiast who wants a running project, this rare British beast looks very tempting.
The vendor says:
“Very comfortable and drives well. Lovely colour combination and interesting 500 registration number included. Always attracts complimentary remarks.”
