The Appeal
The great shame of the MGB is that the factory didn’t exploit its potential during its long life. Thankfully, into that gap have stepped an army of enthusiastic owners and specialists all focussed on making the B what it really should, well, be.
This car perfectly makes that point. Its enthusiast keeper, who has owned it for over 20 years, undertook a professional renovation in 2012 that resulted in a cleverly upgraded car. It looks like a standard ‘69 BGT, but with its Oselli Stage 2 Fast Road Engine, uprated suspension and brakes and long list of other improvements, it certainly doesn’t drive like one.
This car has sorted many of the main criticisms of the factory cars. It’s quicker and more engaging. It is also in very good condition, prettily painted in Snowberry White with a well kept black interior. The attention to detail is impressive - experts will note it retains the correct 1969 ‘one-year only’ seat trims. Other neat features include a lightweight alloy bonnet.
Recent work has included new carpets, door cards and headlining. The big Webasto-style folding roof has been refurbished and the painted MWS wire wheels are new. The undersealing appears recent and is well kept too.
A good, well-sorted BGT is one of the most usable ‘60s classic you can buy. This car looks perfect whether you plan to show it, drive it or head off on a long tour.
The vendor says:
“Sensible upgrades in line with 1969 originality. A joy to own all these years. The car performs very well with the uprated engine, lightened clutch and better stopping power. Carbs have been nicely tuned with good throttle response.
I know this car inside out and have been honest in my assessment of it's condition.
“Owner maintained for 20 years. Many receipts totalling over £15,000 for whatever it needed.
