The Appeal
TR6 was the final evolution of the firm’s ‘hairy chested’ brawny sports cars and this one was amongst the first built. The first cars rolled off the line in January ‘69, and this one was built in March. It is also the TR6 you want: a factory 150bhp car with manual overdrive gearbox.
The vendor acquired the car in late 2023. It was restored in the late 1990s, including a colour change from Magenta to Old English White, a colour chosen to match the original car's use for launch marketing. Shortly after purchase, he commissioned a TR specialist to check it over and attend to any repairs. Close to £15,000 later the car you see in the photos was revealed. The work covered the chassis and other key areas.
This TR6 is a really nice example with some choice period details like the wires and an original 8 Track stereo to add to its appeal. It comes with a vast history file, reportedly including every invoice, MOT and tax disc from new.
Any classic where the buyer has put in the work is one to cherish. This car has exactly that and with TR6s currently in high demand, it’s one not to miss.
The vendor says:
“It is in very good condition and a pleasure to drive. With recent work done it should be good for many years to come. Some minor cosmetic work might be important for the perfectionist but it looks fine for a car that it now over fifty years old. To drive it there is a direct engagement between you and the car. There are no electronic devices to help you. You learn from experience and cannot blame anything else. That is a rewarding experience. This is virtually the last in the line of traditional British sports cars and hence one of the best. Nothing modern can replicate the direct experience of the car and its driver.”
