1970 Chrysler Newport Cabriolet “Big Block” 383ci V8 Auto

Photos provided by the vendor

Highlights

  • Big Block 383 (6.3-litre) V8
  • Customised “300” nose and tail
  • California car with US title
  • Drives and runs well

The Appeal

Hailing from the latter part of the golden age of large, V8-powered American cars, this Newport is a full-size two-door convertible that benefits from some stylish modifications.
With a handsome spec, a thumping great 383ci V8 and lots of potential, we think this smart convertible would make for a fantastic summer cruiser.

The Interior

  • This car’s interior has been retrimmed at some point in white and black leather

  • Excellent “hide away” front headlamps work as they should
  • All of the body panels appear to be straight and corrosion free, with just a few minor dings
  • The front and rear lower valances appear to need some realignment / refitting
  • As far as we can see, the car appears to be corrosion free
  • White fabric roof and matching tonneau cover look to be in good order, with no notable damage or tears
  • The car rides on factory specification steel wheels with polished covers and a matched set of Yokohama whitewall tyres

The Mechanics

  • 383ci V8 (6.3-litre), developing 325hp when new and driving the rear wheels
  • The engine bay is nice and clean, with no evidence of leaks we could see
  • Moroso Performance polished rocker covers
  • Three-speed 727 column-shift automatic transmission
  • Power steering
  • The vendor tells us that the car runs, drives and brakes well

Summary

Compellingly unique, this modified Newport cabriolet, replete with the iconic “Big Block” V8, would make for a wonderful project. Or leave it as it is and just enjoy cruising around in style.
