1970 Fiat 500 L

  • Recently repainted in the original colour scheme

The Attractions

The most important car ever produced in Italy? No, we're not talking Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa or Maserati. We are talking about the more modest but no less iconic Fiat 500. This tiny, simple but unforgettable hatchback consolidated Fiat's future, helping to make it Italy's leading car manufacturer, a company so prosperous and powerful that it absorbed many other important and beloved national brands in the years that followed.
This 1970 Fiat 500 L is distinguished by its extremely original condition and extraordinarily low mileage. The original booklet supplied, which records the mileage intervals between periodic overhauls over the years, confirms that it has covered only 36,000 km since new!
The current owner has taken great care in preserving this 500 by keeping it in its original factory configuration, with the sole exception of a recent repaint in its original colour. The mechanics have been checked to ensure reliability. This car still has its original black number plates and is accompanied by the complete original documentation, including the ASI membership certificate.

History and Documentation

  • Model intended for the Italian market and produced in 1970
  • Still fitted with the desirable original black plates of the period
  • Original booklet and complementary sheet supplied
  • Certificate of registration with the Automotoclub Storico Italiano
  • Valid overhaul stated in the booklet

Conditions

  • We have been informed that it has been repainted in its original colour because the original paintwork had faded over the years
  • The original interior is in very good condition for its age and shows minimal traces of wear, consistent with the low mileage
  • The sunroof works properly
  • The bodywork is in excellent condition, there is only a slight scratch on the front bonnet and a small mark on the front mudguards
  • Only a few slight traces of normal use can be seen, such as small marks on the roof bar and a few imperfections on the wheels and chrome bumpers

The Mechanics

  • 499 cm³ air-cooled twin-cylinder engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • The seller reports that the mechanics were recently checked/reviewed
  • Used regularly for short trips to a small town near Rome; no known problems reported
