1970 Fiat Dino Coupe 2400

Highlights

  • Exceptionally presented and highly original Fiat Coupe
  • Powered by the Ferrari-designed, Fiat-built Dino V6 engine
  • Only three owners from new

The Appeal

Perhaps most iconic for its outing in the Italian Job, the Bertone-designed, Ferrari-lined coupe is a legendary component of Fiat’s incredible history. These cars, with their exceptional styling and Prancing Pony heritage, are a curious and much-loved headline in the long-running tradition of Italian Cars. Powered by a V6 ‘Dino’ engine, designed by the Ferrari family, these exceptional cars were created to facilitate the homologation of an engine for Ferrari’s Formula 2 racing team.
This example, having had only three owners from new, is an exceptional example of a highly desirable piece of automotive history, with plenty of period styling and a charming level of patina.

The History and Paperwork

  • First built in 1970 at the Maranello factory in Modena
  • Registered in 1970 in Alessandria, Italy
  • Two of the three previous owners were reportedly in the Italian Air Force
  • The car indicates 14,434km on a five-figure odometer
  • However, this can’t be verified as the car’s authentic mileage
  • Complete with original registration booklet

The Interior

  • Exceptional period interior with plenty of Zebrano trim
  • Blue textured fabric seats
  • Red velour carpets
Loaded with plenty of period character, this exceptional interior is sure to raise a smile in even the most jaded enthusiast. Boasting a Zebrano dash and centre console - matched up stylishly with the wood-trimmed steering wheel - this car is a glamorous piece of pure 70s Italian luxury.
All of the dashboard’s period instruments appear to be in good condition, with no faults reported by the vendor. Everything looks to be in exceptional order, with only the slightest levels of wear betraying the car’s age.
The car’s blue fabric seats really look the part, with no rips or tears we can highlight and only the slightest signs of wear. The mounts look in good order, and the car is nicely sat on a set of red velour carpets, which lack any rips or tears.
The headlining carries some levels of discolouration, though nothing hugely offputting. The boot is in good order with good, solid looking lining.

The Exterior

  • Exceptional Bertone styling
  • White paintwork with black and chrome trims
  • Original period branded wheels
The Fiat Dino’s aesthetics are undeniably fabulous. From the smooth bonnet to the ever-so-subtle curves of the car’s wings, this is one of Bertone’s most significant masterpieces. This example is in simply exceptional order, with every ounce of the inimitable personality, charisma and sheer style on display.
The bodywork is straight and tightly-knit, with no unusual panel gaps, dents or dings we’ve been able to highlight. The paintwork is in fine order with no major blemishing, chips, corrosion or loss that we’ve been able to spot. There are the slightest marks of wear around the branding, arches and sills, but these are very minor and don’t impact the car’s exterior condition.
The car’s chromework and branding presents well with only the slightest spots of Patina, while the glasswork and lenses are in excellent order. The car is sat on its period-accurate Fiat wheels, which are in turn shod in a full set of Falken tyres - which appear to have plenty of tread.
Underneath, the car is in fine fettle, with only the slightest signs of wear. For car of this period, it’s in exceptional order.

The Mechanics

  • Powered by the 2.4L Dino V6 engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • No reported mechanical modifications
Popping open the hood of this Dino presents a beautifully kept Dino V6 powerplant, which is in great order. We can’t spot any faults or anything of concern, and it’s all reassuringly original. The vendor reports that the car has only ever been used for short trips and is kept nicely maintained.
The car is reportedly starting, shifting, braking and performing very well, with no major faults or mechanical issues. This certainly seems commensurate with the car’s overall condition;

Summary

Beautifully presented through and through, this white Dino is bound to make a stylish addition to any collector’s garage. Perhaps one of the finest pieces of Fiat’s catalogue, this Bertone-styled wonder has to be driven to be truly appreciated.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
