1970 Ford Capri Mk1 1600

Highlights

  • Remarkable survivor recently imported from dry South Africa
  • Smart teal paintwork with black vinyl interior and many original features
  • Original factory steel bodywork, never welded or restored
  • Recently electronic ignition, distributor, starter motor and tyres fitted all round
  • Hard to find in this condition

The Appeal

The Capri is such a brilliant idea that it’s difficult to imagine that nobody had thought of it before. Although influenced by the Mustang, it virtually invented the market for a family GT car that was as stylish as it was practical.
The early cars weren’t built to last, making modern survivors exceptionally rare. Enthusiasts will likely welcome the arrival on our shores of this remarkable 1970 timewarp survivor. It has spent its life in the dry cossetting climes of South Africa, which explains the preserved condition.
It looks very smart in teal blue - it was repainted some years ago - with a host of lovely period features like the Rostyles, wind deflectors and black vinyl interior. The vendor tells us that the bodywork is original and has never been welded or restored.
With its peppy 1.6L Kent engine and manual box, this light and nimble Capri offers entertaining motoring. Recent work includes attention to the ignition system with new distributor, starter motor and switch to electronic ignition. The tyres have also been replaced. It looks a very tidy example of these vanishingly rare early cars.
