1970 Ford Mustang Convertible

Highlights

• Lovely original condition
• Reliable runner
• Ready to be enjoyed

The Appeal

Ignore the view from your window for a moment and imagine a warm, sunny summer’s day outside. Now, what better way to enjoy it than from behind the wheel of a classic V8 Mustang convertible? Packing a 302 cubic inch V8 (4.9 litres in today’s money), and in lovely condition, this example could be just the ticket. Following a trouble-free year with the car, the current owner is now letting it go to fund a car project and if you get busy with the bid button then it could be yours. If you are lucky enough to be the winning bidder then we suspect that you wouldn’t need to wait for summer to enjoy it either as a glass rear window and electronic ignition help to make it usable in less clement weather. Go on, you know you want to.

The History and Paperwork

• Built at the Ford Dearborn plant in Michigan on the 29th September 1969 for Northland Ford, Oak Park as a demonstrator model
• Sold to its first owner on the 14th November 1969
• In current ownership a little over a year
• Selling to fund a project car
• Invoices present from throughout the car’s life
• MOT exempt
• V5 present in the owner's name

The Interior

• White Rhino/ Corinthian vinyl upholstery
• Very original, with the addition of a modern radio
• Three spoke sports steering wheel
Swing open the generously sized door and you’re greeted with a cabin that is largely original and quintessentially seventies. The seats show some patina but have worn remarkably well given the colour scheme while the dashboard, with its characteristic deep-dished dials, shows few signs of ageing. The original radio is still in place but has been usurped by a more modern unit which has been added underneath, though it could easily be removed in the name of originality.
With the carpets all in good condition and protected by overmats, the only real sign of the car’s age is a small patch of surface rust on the driver’s side kick plate but at this stage it’s character rather than a flaw, per se. At the rear is a cavernous boot, with a spare wheel under a cover that matches the boot trim. Overall, it’s a delight with modern tunes added.

The Exterior

• Medium Bright Blue Metallic
• American Racing polished alloys
• Power hood with glass rear window
Presumably Ford had used up all of their creativity on eye-catching bodywork when it came to naming paint colours as ‘Medium Bright Blue Metallic’ undersells this colour scheme. Sitting on Amercian Racing alloys, the car looks superb, particularly with the roof down, as it retracts fully to leave the clean lines of the bodywork.
The paintwork and chrome are in great condition and underneath looks to be solid as well, with just a little surface corrosion. One thing is for certain, and that’s that you won’t want for attention in this car!

The Mechanics

• Holley four barrel carburettor
• Edelbrock air filter
• Electronic ignition
• “Powered by Ford” rocker covers
• Edelbrock performer aluminium intake manifold
• New headers and dual exhaust system
Arguably, by choosing a Mustang convertible, you’re not necessarily looking for the full race car experience from the drive. And with C4 automatic transmission and power steering, this car makes for easy progress, though with an ever present V8 rumble.
On the move, there are no untoward noises and there are no leaks or smoke evident. The subtle upgrades have helped the car to be reliable, with the current owner reporting that he’s had no problems whatsoever during his year of ownership.

The Summary

A great opportunity to acquire a drop top muscle car that’s ready to be enjoyed.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
