The Appeal
The Volkswagen Beetle is an automotive icon that has captured hearts worldwide with its distinctive shape and charming character. This 1970 example stands out from the crowd, having been professionally converted to a convertible with reinforced bodywork to maintain its structural rigidity. Unlike the Karmann-built cabriolets, this car's roof tucks neatly into the rear bodywork when lowered - arguably a more elegant design.
The vendor tells us:
"I bought the Beetle on 10 May 2024 as a 50th birthday present for my wife. Unfortunately, she has recently become unable to drive it. Upon purchase, the vehicle was fully inspected and the following items remedied: Shock absorbers replaced, Fuel line replaced, Fuel drained and replaced, Oil drained and replaced, brake lines replaced and bled, Napoleon's hat replaced and bottom cleaned and painted to ensure it is rust-free. Faulty speakers and radio were replaced and a new battery was installed. The car has always been garage-kept by me and the previous owner.
"The perfect summer car. Beautiful in a traditional beetle way, head turner wherever it goes. Joy to drive around country lanes. Tons of character and charm, and reliable with it."
The combination of its classic Beetle styling with the added enjoyment of open-top motoring makes this a particularly desirable example. Having been garage-kept throughout its life with the current and previous owner, and benefiting from recent mechanical refreshment, this characterful convertible Beetle presents an opportunity to own a unique and well-maintained classic that's ready to enjoy.image.png3.92 MB

Hi Mike, thanks for the question. This beauty was made in 1970 - I think the 1302/1303 models were first made in 1971 (Maybe announced in 1970?). So it would have the standard designation which I believe before the 1302 and the 1302s "Super Beetle" was 1200 or just "Beetle" which has the front axle torsion bar rather than the struts.
