 • The interior has been refitted
 • Sought after and stylish classic

The Appeal

One of the most stylish Volvos ever produced, the P1800 is a much-loved classic the world over. The model would find pop-culture acclaim when Roger Moore drove a P1800 in the 60’s TV show, The Saint.

This example has been through a lot of work over its most recent history with both the current and previous owners carrying out their own refinement works. It has most recently been through an expensive respray process meaning that she now sits in near-perfect exterior condition.

Whoever has the pleasure of owning this car on its next chapter in life will have one beautiful example of one of the best Volvos ever produced, don’t miss out on the opportunity to own this stunner.

The History and Paperwork

 • First registered for use on the UK roads in March of 1970 it is clear to see that it has been loved throughout its 50-year life
 • It has had a few owners over the past 50 years so as you might expect through miss placing and losing items not every single invoice is available
 • Although not every invoice from 1970 is present there are some excellent Volvo manuals. These include a service manual, a complete guide to the P1800, and the P1800E owner’s manual
 • There are quite a few MOT certificates present
 • A current V5 is present too so a change of ownership will be nice and easy
 • Over the past couple of owners, it has been through a couple of restorations, with the last restoration being thorough
 • The current owner acquired this car but sadly through a lack of use it is for sale before they fall in love with it too much
 • Ever since they have owned it the current owner has kept it stored in a lovely underground storage facility
 • During its time in the storage facility, it has been refined to ensure perfect reliability, which was apparent when it started straight away
 • Whoever gets to own this car on its next chapter in life will be getting a lovely example of a sort after classic.

The Interior

 • The black interior has been re-fitted recently
 • Beautiful wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel
 • The sunroof works as it should
The interior of this P1800 is one of those classic interiors that has been designed properly.

With a large wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel and classic Smiths dials set into the wooden dash, it is a glorious place to sit and watch the miles pass by.

When the previous owner acquired this car, they were informed that it had been through a restoration process by the owner before them, but on inspection, it was not up to their exacting standards.

So, one of the jobs that was completed was a refit of the interior. Thanks to this refit the interior is presented in excellent condition. The black leather seats not only show no signs of wear and tear, but they are nice and comfortable too.

A lovely feature that may be missed at first glance is that the Volvo emblem has been embossed into both the door cards and also on the rear seat. Along with the black seats, the black carpets are also in great condition, fitting in nicely with the rest of the interior.

Like many classics, this car is fitted with a sunroof that helps transform the interior into a nice and airy cabin. This sunroof worked as expected on the day the photographs were taken, retracting nice and easily.

The interior of this true classic is in almost perfect condition, the next custodian of this vehicle will be inheriting a well-maintained interior.

This cabin will hold the key to unlocking many happy motoring experiences and memories in the not-too-distant future.

The Exterior

 • This P1800 has recently been through an expensive respray
 • All the body panels are in great condition
 • The chrome is presented in really good condition
We can’t be the only people that think that the Volvo P1800 is possibly the best-looking model to leave the Swedish factory.

Unlike modern and boxy Volvos, the P1800 incorporates sweeping curves and aerodynamics touches that make it a stunning car, no wonder it found TV fame with Roger Moore.

The exterior of this example is much like the interior, it is presented in excellent condition. Painted in Safari Yellow (code 100 for anyone who wants to know) it sits beautifully in any light, even under the artificial light it was photographed in.

The reason why the paint looks as good as it does is because It has just gone through a respray process with the prestigious car restorers XK Engineering, this work ended up costing £6,500 so you can tell it has been done properly.

Along with the paintwork, the chrome elements are in great condition, with only some age-related marks which are to be expected with a car of this age.

One easy way to tell if the current owner adores their car is to check the tyres. True enthusiasts will always endeavour to run matching tyres on all four corners, this Volvo is no different.

Riding on four matching and fairly new Dunlop tyres you can tell the current owner loves this car. This Volvo also has four minilite style alloy wheels, which are also in great condition showing no signs of curb rash.

With this example being presented in such great condition you will be the envy of any classic car show, it could even be considered for Concours shows with how well she has been restored.

The next owner of this classic will have one stunning car to add to their collection.

The Mechanics

 • Fitted with the fuel-injected 2.0l
 • These cars are known to be bulletproof – one P1800 has covered 3,000,000 miles
 • Starts and idles lovely
When the P1800 launched in 1961 it let the factory with the B18 engine, a 100 hp petrol 1.8l engine, and with the addition of a 4-speed gearbox, it was every part of the sports car it looked like.

After a few tweaks and by the time we get to the production year of this P1800 we have a 2.0L engine fitted and the gearbox has also gained an overdrive function.

The B20E engine was also fitted with fuel injection and with a few other changes it now made 130hp. It also gained disc brakes on all four corners, something we take for granted today but this would have been ground-breaking in the 70s.

This P1800 is presented in excellent mechanical condition, on the day that the photographs were taken she started swiftly on the key and idled nicely thanks to the fuel injection.

She was manoeuvred into position at slow speed in her underground storage unit easily. The steering, although not power-assisted, is fairly light which should make her a pleasure to drive.

It is clear that the current owner has lavished love and attention on this beautiful Swedish sports car and thanks to this the next owner will be inheriting a beautifully maintained car.

There are quite a few invoices that document some of the recent work carried out to her.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
