The Appeal
The lightweight Giulia Sprint GTA and GTA-P variants, prepared by Autodelta for competition during the 1960s, remain among the most revered Alfa Romeos ever produced. Their combination of a free-revving twin-cam engine, pared-back bodywork and agile handling has made them enduringly desirable, and increasingly unobtainable. This 1971 Giulia Sprint, based on a right-hand-drive UK-market 1750 GTV, has been developed as a GTA-P tribute intended to capture the spirit of those celebrated competition cars for use on the road.
The conversion was undertaken from 2019 by Alfa Panels (Wright Restoration), a North East-based specialist with experience in Alfa Romeo restoration and GRP panel production. The build incorporates lightweight fibreglass body panels, including bonnet, doors, wings and boot lid, along with an upgraded 2.0-litre twin-cam engine fitted with Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, Cosworth pistons and liners, a ported cylinder head and high-lift camshafts, producing approximately 160bhp. A Quaife limited-slip differential, Alfaholics suspension components and uprated brakes complete the mechanical specification.
Supplied with its V5C, maintenance invoices, this is a distinctive and characterful lightweight Alfa Romeo built for engaging road use.ALFAGTA-5 E-Type U.K.jpg1.32 MB
