The Appeal

While some Italian sports cars have three times the number of cylinders, a 105 Series Alfa Romeo is every bit as exotic, exquisite and exciting. With glorious styling, competent handling and a fabulous all-alloy twin-cam engine powering the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, they’re some of the most accomplished driver’s cars of all time.

Here we have a delightful 1971 GTV 2000 which has previously been restored to a lovely standard. It remains in fantastic overall condition and the vendor has carried out some recommissioning work readying it for its new owner. With accompanying invoices detailing the extent of the work carried out in recent years, this Alfa is ready to be enjoyed.

The History and Paperwork

  • A right-hand drive South African example
  • Previously restored to original specifications
  • Little is known of this car’s early history
  • An invoice dated 23rd March 2023 encompasses a brake system overhaul
  • An invoice dated 16th May 2023 details some fabrication work and a full respray
  • An invoice dated 29th September 2023 covers the remaining recommissioning work, replacing consumables and fine tuning the mechanicals

The Interior

  • Evidently retrimmed and restored
  • Black vinyl upholstery in fantastic condition
  • Smart veneers with a satin finish
  • Very little in the way of wear
  • No evidence of later additions or modification
  • Beautiful wood-rimmed steering wheel by Personal
  • Not fitted with a radio
  • Period correct carpeting with sewn in rubber mats
  • Floor-hinged brake and clutch pedals
  • Seat belts fitted front and rear
  • Light wear to the interior door pulls
  • The instruments and switches all present really well and we understand them to be in good order
  • Well presented boot space with OEM Alfa Romeo branded rubber matting
  • Spare wheel present

As is the case with all 105 Series Alfas, the interior is a lovely place to be without being overly plush and luxurious. These were intended to be everyday transport so there are hard-wearing materials and practical controls as befit a four-seater compact coupé.

Having been restored to a great standard, much of this GTV’s upholstery has been replaced or restored to original specification. There’s some light patina in places, but certainly nothing excessive and we understand all to be in good working order.

The Exterior

  • Red paintwork - resprayed in May 2023
  • Period correct Campagnolo alloy wheels
  • OEM chrome bumpers with stout overriders
  • All the trim looks to be in fantastic order
  • Smart bodywork and underside which has received some attention this year
  • No signs of structural corrosion or accident damage
  • Straight and with great panel fit

Bertone styled the GTV and its svelte lines have become a favourite of many a petrolhead the world over. Red is always a good choice for Alfas and this coupé looks fantastic, having been refinished back in May this year.

There’s no damage so far as we could discern, an absence of notable blemishes and we couldn’t pilot any signs of structural corrosion. Some fabrication work was carried out at the time of the respray and so the bodywork looks to be in great order.

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC engine
  • Fuelled by a pair of DellOrto carburettors
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Subject to recent mechanical recommissioning
  • Beautifully presented under the bonnet
  • Said to be running and driving very well indeed

With the largest version of Alfa Romeo’s inimitable Nord twin-cam providing ample power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, this GTV boasts sprightly performance and a great soundtrack through its big bore exhaust.

Accompanying invoices demonstrate that this is a very healthy example with a brake system and general mechanical overhaul carried out earlier this year. We’re assured that it runs really well, drives exactly as it should and never fails to bring a smile to your face behind the wheel.

Summary

In fantastic restored condition and benefitting from comprehensive recommissioning, this Alfa Romeo is very well sorted and is certainly ready to embark on its next adventure.

If you’re seeking a stylish Italian sports car that’s as great to drive as it is to look at, don’t miss this charming GTV 2000.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
