THE APPEAL

The Jaguar E-Type is a car that needs no introduction, having been voted as both the most beautiful car of all-time, as well as one of the most important.

Whether a flat-floor 3.8 or a last-of-the-line V12, the iconic Jaguar sports car is an all-time classic. And this one is an absolute gem – a 1971 V12 2+2, it has been with its current owner for the past 15 years, in which time he’s carried out a huge amount of work on the car – mechanical, structural and cosmetic – to bring it up to the wonderful standard in which it is currently presented.

But with an earlier E-Type taking up his time and this one pretty much as good as it’ll ever be, it’s time for the car to find a new home.

A particularly appealing feature is the car’s full-length Webasto sunroof – it’s watertight and in full working order.

It has a modernised radio fitted and all of the dials and controls work as they ought to, while the overall condition of the cabin is stunning, offset by a vast bank of switches and a smart three-spoke leather-rimmed sports steering wheel.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Fully repainted to exceptional standard
  • New floors and underside repairs carried out by owner
  • Beautifully refurbished original steel wheels
  • Superb chrome and trim
This is an absolute stunner of a car, having been professionally repainted to a very high standard by a body shop after the vendor carried out structural repairs. The paint finish is blemish-free and looks incredible, with the colour being a slightly darker hue than the Leyland era British Racing Green that the car originally wore and all the better for it – it’s the original 1960s BRG instead.

The vendor has fitted new floors that have been repaired as necessary and the drivers side front section renewed to a very good standard over a long period of time – it has been a long-term project and it has clearly been finished with perfectionism front of mind.

The chrome is original and nicely patinated and the bumpers and over riders are newly fitted, as is the roof canvas, and the wheels have been power-coated and refurbished to a wonderful standard, with a matching set of Pirelli P4000 tyres all-round.

THE MECHANICS

  • 5.3-litre V12
  • Three-speed automatic
  • Suspension, braking system and steering completely overhauled
  • Fully checked over and mechanically recommissioned by vendor
Jaguar’s mighty V12 is an impressive engine and this one appears to be a great example, starting on the button and running smoothly, with good oil pressure. The engine has been dismantled and rebuilt with new seals and gaskets, replacing any worn parts as required and new hoses fitted to cooling system.

He has also renewed or refreshed the entire braking system, front and rear suspension components and steering parts to ensure it’s as good as it possibly can be. It’s a fabulous car that genuinely wants for nothing.

SUMMARY

This is a stunning example of the V12 E-Type 2+2 – beautifully presented inside and out and finished to a wonderful standard by an owner who has gone over the entire car and repaired and replaced anything it needed over 15 years of ownership – a project he has thrown himself into as a labour of love.

It’s a truly gorgeous car in equally wonderful condition, and a terrific example of an early V12 E-Type that deserves to be cherished and preserved.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
