1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 2+2 (LHD)

Highlights

  • Californian import
  • Much mechanical work completed
  • Fully UK registered

The Appeal

Recently imported from California, this Series Three V12 E-Type has been the recipient of considerable expenditure and recommissioning work this year.
Having been stored for some time in California, this left hand drive Jaguar was imported to the UK before work began.
This is now a running and driving example with a throaty, sweet sounding exhaust note. And it is not far from being an excellent example of a late E-Type, being sold by a private collector who is reducing his fleet.

The History and Paperwork

  • Overflowing history file
  • Imported this year from California
  • Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate
  • Numerous invoices for mechanical work
  • UK registered with V5C

The Interior

  • New drivers seat base foam and diaphragm
  • Left Hand Drive, automatic
  • Front and rear seat belts

The black leather interior has benefitted from the refurbishment of the  driver’s seat base with new foam and a new diaphragm. Seatbelts are present for both front and rear passengers, and a new ignition switch with integral steering lock has been installed.

A full array of switchgear and gauges adorn the dashboard. Above this, some of the vinyl below the windscreen has unfortunately cracked due to UV damage.

Overall, the interior of this E-Type is very usable, with some scope for improvement, more precisely some minor corrosion repairs to the left hand footwell.

The Exterior

  • Signal Red
  • 15 inch chrome wire wheels
  • New Tyres
The vibrant Signal Red paintwork is a colour choice which suits this car perfectly. The paint is in generally good condition but the seller notes some cracking on front of the bonnet, flaking on the tailgate and the usual small number of chips and scratches elsewhere.
Sitting on 15 inch chrome wire wheels, all shod with new tyres, this car maintains a purposeful stance on the road, with its distinctive flared exhaust tail.
A new rear bonnet seal and tailgate seal have been fitted, as well as a new lockable chrome fuel cap.

The Mechanics

  • Considerable recent expenditure
  • Automatic transmission
  • A few jobs to complete
The seller notes that the 5.3-litre V12 starts readily and shows excellent oil pressure, with no oil smoke on start up and no untoward noises.
Mechanically, this car has been subject to extensive refurbishment. The vendor states that the car has received a new SU double ended fuel pump, NGK plugs, HT leads, coil, battery, cam cover gaskets and oil seals, transmission sump gasket, front brake hoses, a new brake master cylinder, and rebuilt carburettors with all new seals, gaskets, diaphragms and float valves.
The car would benefit from a reconditioned steering rack (leaking seals), replacement of carburettor throttle spindles, a professional carburettor tune and a general pre-flight check over.
As you can see, this car has received a considerable amount of mechanical attention, and just needs a few loose ends tidying up.

Summary

Who doesn’t love an E-Type? This example offers the best of all worlds with its powerful 5.3-litre V12 and practical additional rear seating.

This Californian import has received much mechanical attention recently. It needs a little finishing off, but once complete it will be sure to impress onlookers wherever it goes.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
