The History and Paperwork

  • V5 present.
  • The car has an MOT with no advisories to 19th Sept 2023 (mot exempt)
  • The current keeper has owned this car twice, once in the 1990s and sold it in 2005, then bought the vehicle back in 2020. The car has since gone through a complete rebuild and extremely thorough restoration during 2021-22.
  • Truly enormous collection of paperwork and receipts dating back to 1994, one of the most comprehensive histories you will find on any vehicle.
  • Overall a very tasteful restoration, and the car remains in substantially the same specification as when new.

The Interior

This wonderful MGB features a stunning black leather interior with white piping detail, and a tasteful dash of chrome. It is a truly fantastic example and retains a wonderful original feel while also being in sublime condition throughout.

The dashboard is completely original and in excellent condition with no damage to the factory black crackle finish. The instruments, their glass, switches and controls all work perfectly. A nice addition is LED bulbs fitted for instrument illumination and for the warning lights.

  • A 12 volt socket is fitted on the centre panel for accessories. The heater works well and warms up nicely.
  • Some interior parts have been replaced, with fresh carpets throughout and new door cards.
  • Other trim panels remain original and are still in very good condition.
  • The seats are original with headrests and have new covers, very nice and do not detract from the original feel of the car in any way and are very supple and comfortable.

The Exterior

The excellent restoration shows on the exterior, with the car having had a full respray to a very high standard in Tartan Red by RC Coachworks of Ayr. The condition of the paint is truly exceptional, you will struggle to find fault with this exterior.

A very nice point of note is that the car comes with a factory-style hard-top, which has also been resprayed in Tartan Red to match the car, despite not being done to the same standard as the main respray, it has been done well and would not take much to bring up up to standard with the rest of the vehicle.

  • The black vinyl soft-top is new and in fantastic condition.
  • The brightwork is in overall very good condition, with only some minor blemishes to
  • the right hand bumper side corner edge, which has been repaired.
  • Some bodywork that has been carried out is a full 3-part sill replacement on both sides.
  • The rear wings have also been replaced from the trim strip downwards.
  • The upper rear wings were de-seamed in the 90s and are still perfect.
  • Inner rear wings were repaired as necessary.
  • The Front wings have had plastic arch liners fitted in the 90s which has kept corrosion away.
  • Front and rear valances have been replaced, the front one being glassfibre.
  • Repairs have been made to the RH rear chassis leg, with minor repairs to the boot
  • floor.
  • The whole car is Dinitrol protected. Its first protection had been done in the 90s.
  • Since the restoration all hollow sections have been liberally sprayed with Dinitrol
  • cavity oil, and the underside coated with Dinitrol underseal.
  • The bonnet lid is aluminium and is light-weight and corrosion free.
  • All five wheels are in stunning shape and the tyres have very little wear.
  • There is a radio aerial on the RH front wing although no radio is fitted at present.
  • Overall, an absolutely stunning exterior that is very hard to fault.

The Mechanics

The comprehensive restoration is very evident with the mechanical components on this car. It has been recently treated to a full overhaul and professional engine rebuild by Cameron Gilmour Engine Services.

The engine block is believed to be original, and has been rebored to 1868cc, has a polished crank with new shells, new pistons and rings, new timing chain, and has a Peter Burgess fast road head with hardened valve seats that was first fitted in the 90’s.

This complete rebuild is topped off with standard SU HS4 carburettors that have been professionally rebuilt and protected by K&N filters. This stunning engine starts and runs perfectly and is still running in with only 300 miles on it since the rebuild.

  • New choke and throttle cables have also been fitted.
  • Ignition is taken care of by new Powerspark components, completed with a new main wiring harness, new 12v battery and new alternator.
  • The rear springs are quite recent and have been fitted with new bushes at the shackle ends.
  • New pads have been fitted where the axle connects with the springs.
  • The rear lever arm dampers are in good condition and do not leak.
  • The front suspension has been dismantled and fitted with blue Superflex poly bushes.
  • The king pins were serviced and fitted with ball race top swivels.
  • New tie rod ends were fitted.
  • The front lever arm dampers are in good condition and do not leak.
  • The braking system had Kunifer (copper/nickel) pipes installed back in the 90s along with armoured flexible lines. All are still in good condition.
  • It has recently had new front discs, callipers and pads, new rear slave cylinders and a new master cylinder.
  • The handbrake linkage has been overhauled and works well.
  • The fuel tank was in good condition when removed, so was repainted and refitted.
  • The fuel pump was changed for a new Hardi electronic pump.
  • The flexible fuel hoses were changed for a new ethanol resistant type.
  • A standard design stainless exhaust system is fitted. It was new 20 years ago but is still in very good condition.
  • The gearbox, overdrive, prop shaft and rear axle are all original and still working very well.
  • A new carbon clutch thrust bearing has been fitted along with new clutch master and slave cylinders.

Summary

A truly stunning example, this fine MGB is a real head turner. The discerning MGB enthusiast will notice the fine attention to detail with which this restoration has been carried out, with no expense spared, retaining a wonderful original feel in a car that has been lovingly refreshed and prepared for many years of excellent motoring. About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
