The Appeal
In the late 1960s European car makers were looking to America for influence. Hence the Capri, because of the Mustang, and also this car, the Corvette-infused Opel GT. It was, and is, gorgeous.
Where the Capri was merely stylish, the GT was genuinely eye-catching. Swivelling headlamps, cut-off tail and swooping lines made these cars proper showroom magnets. They are a rare sight now, so this car is a timely reminder of what we’ve been missing.
Finished in the factory-correct combination of Flame Red (code JJ) with black (code 751) interior, it is a beautifully preserved car. That is thanks to a cossetting life, much of it spent in South Africa’s dry Highveld as part of an enthusiast’s private collection. It has only had two other keepers.
Highly original and in good running order, it has the 1.9L 105bhp engine and rare, optional 5spd gearbox. It has recently been imported to the UK from South Africa and is sold with fresh service, new battery and a set of new tyres.
