The Appeal
Produced between 1969 and 1976, the TR6 would become Triumph’s best selling vehicle from the TR series, until it was later succeeded by the TR7. Fitted with a fruity straight-six engine, these roadsters are capable of producing around 150bhp, and delivering a sub 9 second 0-60 time. With similar styling to the TR5 save for more squared-off and muscular front and back ends, the TR6 is a truly beautiful car.
Today, tidy examples of these classy roadsters are becoming few and far between. This particular TR6 presents buyers with the opportunity to own a low mileage example in excellent condition, that genuinely requires nothing to be enjoyed.
The History and Paperwork
- Well maintained example
- Low mileage for the vehicle’s age
- A fantastic amount of paperwork & invoices
- Garaged and well-cared for
- V5C document present
- Original handbook
- 2 keys
Over the years, this mighty TR6 has passed through multiple caring owners, yet has only covered just shy of 97 thousand miles, rather remarkable for the vehicle’s age. Throughout the current owner’s possession, the car has certainly continued its care-filled life and has been treated to everything as required. The car has also proven to be rather dependable and was at one point daily driven by the current keeper in the dry weather. If that’s not a fair sign of the car’s reliability, what is?
This beautiful Triumph comes with a fantastic amount of paperwork, including the V5C document, previous MOT certificates that help verify the car’s low mileage, and previous invoices for parts & labour. Also included is a document that carefully details previous maintenance over the years, complete with mileage notes.
The Interior
- Excellent condition
- Full new carpet set
- Moto-Lita 3-spoke steering wheel
- Wood veneer dash panels
The interior of this now 51-year-old vehicle is in superb condition, showing only a few minor signs of wear and age. Both seats are in fair condition, with signs of bolster wear beginning to show as one would expect. Despite this, both seats remain exceptionally comfortable and still look fantastic against the exterior paintwork.
The current owner would like to highlight a minor defect in the form of a crack on the glovebox’s veneer cover, which in perfect honesty is hardly noticeable at first glance and doesn’t detract from the overall cabin.
Both door cards and most interior trim pieces are in a similar fair condition, showing only minor signs of age that could no doubt be restored without much difficulty or cost. As the car benefits from a recent full carpet set, you will find very few signs of wear or usage showing on carpeted areas throughout the car.
The car does also include a tonneau cover, which is in superb condition having likely never been used more than a handful of times over the years. The roof fabric is of course in similar condition, and clearly reflects high levels of care.
The Exterior
- Gorgeous blue paintwork
- Classy wire-spoke wheels
- Excellent condition
- A truly handsome car
This TR6 is one of those classics that simply never look outdated, and has a fantastic road presence even to this day. The muscular body lines suit the car perfectly and present themselves beautifully in a coat of blue paint.
The paintwork itself is in excellent condition, with only a few minor imperfections noticeable upon very close inspection. It’s certainly a colour that does the vehicle justice and looks superb against the classy wire wheels. All 4 wheels are in excellent condition and are wrapped in a matching set of Vredestein Sprint +S80 tyres with plenty of tread to enjoy.
All exterior trim pieces, including badging and chrome work, are in spectacular condition, bringing this car’s overall aesthetic condition to a level far greater than most other examples. Other than minor cracks in the covers, all lights and indicators are also in excellent condition, with the orange contrasting perfectly against the blue bodywork.
Overall, this TR6 is in superb condition and deserves to be witnessed in person. If you’re looking for a fantastic example that requires very little to achieve a perfect finish, this is easily your champion.
The Mechanics
- 2.5L straight-six engine
- 4-Speed manual gearbox
- Stainless steel exhaust
- Full working order
- Expertly maintained
This TR6 fires up right away and drives without a mechanical or electrical fault. The vehicle has been well maintained over the years, and its time with the current keeper has been no exception. During its time with the current keeper, the car has been treated to a host of new parts including a new speedometer cable, brakes, clutch kit, heater matrix & hoses, as well as regular servicing.
As the vehicle is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system, this TR6 sets the benchmark for just how fantastic a straight-six should sound. It is certainly not an exhaust system for the faint-hearted but my goodness, it sounds absolutely heavenly as you row through the gears.
With no known issues, a fantastic maintenance record and a full set of tyres, this is the perfect toy for the upcoming summer.
Summary
If you’re in the market for a British classic, that combines iconic ‘70s styling with legendary straight-six performance, a Triumph TR6 deserves to be on your radar. This particular example is absolutely gorgeous, has been very well cared for and performs without fault.
With the summer just around the corner now, what better vehicle to enjoy sporty top-down driving with?
