Highlights

• A beautifully presented example of this classic Alfa Coupe in lovely Avorio Cava
• Highly original throughout and subject to a full, professional restoration in 2012
• Having covered 26,000 kms since restoration, regularly driven and very dependable, starts on the button!

The Appeal

The diminutive, yet muscular appearance of the 1300GT Junior combined with the very desirable Alfa Romeo badge on the nose makes this one of today’s most sought-after classic Alfas. Demand is certainly higher than supply with many purists considering the car the most desirable of small and lithe classic coupes to come out of Milan.
This example is based in Northern France and offers a rare combination of great, original condition but not at the cost of usability and practicality.
These little coupes are rising stars of the attainable classic car market with prices predicted to continue to climb robustly due to a lack of good examples remaining today.

The History and Paperwork

 • A native Italian car spending its first 26 years in its motherland before being exported to France in 1998
 • The current owner is a classic car enthusiast and has used the car regularly and sympathetically during his tenure
 • The car is understood to have covered 26,000 kms since its comprehensive restoration in 2012
 • Today the car is available with its French registration documents and its periodic technical test document – the French equivalents of the UK V5 and MOT
 • The owner reports that a modest amount of bills and invoices are also included
 • Photographs from the 2012 restoration are included and the car featured in a French classic car magazine too (pictured) and this will also be included in the sale
 • The Alfa comes with 2 sets of keys

The Interior

 • The interior of the 1300GT Junior is surprisingly roomy pointing to the excellent packaging of this Bertone design classic
 • The interior appears to be entirely period correct and awash with delightful, period Alfa details
 • The interior is predominantly dressed in black punctuated with dashes of chrome and wood
 • The seats are box pleated in hard wearing black vinyl
 • The delightful and tactile three spoke alloy steering wheel is finished with a wooden rim
 • The central panel of the dashboard is finished in a light wood veneer
 • The main instruments sit in the signature hooded cowls so suggestive of Alfa Romeo interiors of this period
 • Carpets are black and protected by piped, carpet mats
 • Both headlining and door cards appear to be entirely original and in great condition
Alfa Romeos of this period are an object lesson in packaging and sporty ambiance and this 1300GT Junior is no exception. The interior appears to be period correct and in great condition throughout. A lovely place to be with the best seat in the house being the one behind that sublime wood and alloy steering wheel.

The Exterior

 • The car was restored in 2012 and the sills and inner sills were rebuilt in 2020
 • The exterior of the 1300 GT Junior is finished in a very attractive off-white colourway
 • The paintwork looks to be in excellent condition throughout and appears deep and lustrous
 • Panel gaps are admirably tight and symmetrical throughout
 • The extensive chrome work appears to be bright and shiny
 • The steel wheels are centred with the correct, Alfa Romeo monogrammed centre caps
 • Light lenses, front and back, look original and unmarked
 • The correct badges and emblems, including the iconic Bertone ones, are all present and correct. There are even some supplemental period cloverleaf badges added below the midline and the heart grille is a metal one, not a cheap plastic replica.
 • A set of chrome backed Carello driving lights are fitted to the front bumper
The word “iconic” is much overused but in the case of the Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior is is entirely appropriate. This is a small but mighty car and an object lesson in why Bertone has become the automotive design powerhouse that it is today. Low, lithe, and minimalistic but with bags of character and presence, this car is a design classic for sure.

The Mechanics

 • The reputation of the 1300 GT Junior was built on its zesty 1,290cc engine, light weight and compact footprint
 • The four-cylinder motor was originally rated at 89 bhp which was a prodigious amount for a 1.3L unit in the early 1970’s
 • This example is reported to be in excellent mechanical condition throughout
 • The low mileage, sympathetic use and an excellent restoration in 2012 has clearly stood this little Alfa in good mechanical stead
 • The car is used regularly on long trips, including to the Alps and is subjected to a mechanical check-up twice a year
For its time the Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior was a real giant killer and that was the foundation of its charm. With a kerb weight of under 1,000 kgs, a power output close to 100 bhp produced at 6,000 rpm you have a recipe for a true driver’s car par excellence. Owners report that 100mph was easily attainable and the zesty and durable engine delivering impressive in gear acceleration under all circumstances. No surprise then that these little gems have gone on to become so popular and desirable today.

Summary

These little Alfas are becoming so hard to find in any condition, such is their allure and charm. This example is an absolute gem not to be missed. A mere 3 enthusiastic owners across fifty years and the subject to a really comprehensive restoration less than 26,000 kms ago.

The other key asset in this car’s favour is its charming originality. Yes, it has been restored but it has been restored to an original condition with no fripperies or unnecessary adornments added. After all it is pretty hard to improve on Bertone’s automotive artistry on display in the sublime curves of the Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
