The Appeal
Much like how Japanese motorcycles burst onto the scene in the late 1960s only to wipe the floor with their competition, the same could be said for Japan's early sports cars. The Datsun 240Z brought affordable sports coupé styling, immense performance, build quality and reliability to the global market, selling over half a million units. It remains one of the most celebrated sports cars of the 1970s. Original UK right-hand drive examples are particularly sought after, as the vast majority of 240Zs on British roads today are later imports or left-hand drive conversions.
This 1972 example is a genuine UK-market car with matching chassis and engine numbers. It was extensively rebuilt in 2018, a process that included a bare metal respray in Old English White extending to the engine bay, refreshed interior trim and refurbished original Wolfrace slotmag alloy wheels. Underseal and Waxoyl were applied for ongoing protection beneath.
Mechanically, the car has benefited from a host of new components, and a discreetly fitted electric power steering system improves everyday usability, though all original parts have been retained should a future owner wish to revert. The vendor describes the car as "on the button" with a real 1970s period feel, and states it keeps up with modern traffic with ease. It is offered with rebuild documentation, invoices, service paperwork and two sets of keys.image.png1.51 MB
