Highlights

  • Rare evolution of the 365GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ with only 505 examples ever produced
  • Beautiful, tasteful and rare original colour combination
  • Subject to a recent service in readiness for sale
  • Highly original inside and out

The Appeal

While we revere the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ today, it was looking a little old-fashioned by the early 1970s and although mid-engined cars were by then in the works, Marinello continued to evolve their front-engined platform in the way of the 365 GTC/4. As usual, Pininfarina were called upon to devise the styling and the GTC/4 was every bit as stunning as its predecessor while looking far more like a car of the ‘70s.
Just 505 were built over its short production run and we’re delighted to bring to market this beautiful French market example from 1972. The vendor informs us that the car remains highly original and benefits from a recent mechanical service in readiness for sale.
For grand touring duties, this car is as good as it gets and the rarity of the model makes this an unmissable opportunity for collectors the world over.

What a site this would be parked down a cobbled street on the Riviera…
Utterly sublime from every angle, the GTC/4 is without doubt one of the best-looking Ferraris of all time and we’re pleased to report that this example is in lovely condition. The vendor assures us that it remains highly original, never having undergone a full restoration which means there’s an authentic patina throughout.
The colour scheme is incredible and the fact it’s original to the car further enhances its appeal to collectors. Besides the slightest of age-related blemishes, the vendor says there’s no notable wear or any damage to report. On the inside the leather has accrued a charming patina with age, while remaining supple to the touch. We’re not informed of any issues with the cabin electrics and instrumentation.

The Mechanics

  • 4.4-litre V12 fed by six side-draft Weber carburettors
  • Five-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox
  • Impeccably presented engine compartment
  • Subject to a recent service
Nothing compares to the magnificence of a V12 Ferrari. The noise, the performance and the tractability are all unbeatable in our view.
Unlike the Daytona, there’s no transaxle in the GTC/4 - instead the gearbox is coupled directly to the engine and sends power to the rear axle via a torque tube. Impressively, it still managed near-perfect 51:49 weight distribution, resulting in beautifully balanced handling.
We’re informed that this example remains mechanically original and has undergone a recent service in readiness for its new owner. Unlike US-market models, this Europe-supplied model wasn’t subdued by emissions regulations and therefore boasts an impressive 355 bhp - ample for cross-continental grand touring even to this day.
