When Ford decided to race the Capri in competition, the objective was certainly not to finish in second place. Developed for homologation in the European Touring Car Championship, the Capri RS2600 received the 2.6-litre Cologne V6 engine, renowned for its generous torque, paired with a sophisticated Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system for the era.
 
With 150 bhp, it quickly established itself on the circuits, notably winning European titles in 1971 and 1972. Ford initially planned production of 1,000 units to obtain the necessary homologation, but the commercial success of this competition-derived version led to 3,532 units being built.
 
It is estimated that only around 500 examples have survived today. The seller considers this 1972 Capri RS2600 to be among the most original cars still in existence, a claim supported by its history and condition.
 
Sold new by Ford France in December 1972, the car belonged to its first owner until 1997, who is believed to have covered approximately 71,000 km before passing it to its current owner. The latter added nearly 10,000 additional kilometres before putting it away, the car remaining unused for the last ten years.
 
This period of limited use and storage has preserved a particularly authentic example, without restoration or major modification. Presented in its original light blue colour with its RS black fabric interior, it retains a natural patina befitting its age.
 
Ford enthusiasts will appreciate the numerous original elements still present, such as the specific decals, original RS alloy wheels and equipment specific to the RS2600 version. The identification plates indicate the engine code "XU", confirming according to the seller a genuine RS2600 produced at the Ford Saarbrücken factory.
 
The engine turns over but does not start. The seller suspects a problem related to the fuel injection system, making it a vehicle requiring recommissioning, but offering a particularly interesting base thanks to its authenticity and documented history.
