The Background

Introduced in 1971 the Series 3 was a facelifted version of the Series 2 & 2a which also featured a few mechanical improvements over its predecessor. In the looks department the headlights were mounted on the front of the wings, the metal mesh had been replaced for a plastic one and the bonnet had gone through a bit of a restyle. Mechanically it now received the fully synchromesh four speed gearbox that had been fitted to the Series 2a in the latter stages of its production run.

The History

When you purchase this car you are not just buying another Land Rover that emerged from the Solihull plant in 1972 but instead, you’re buying a Series 3 Land Rover with a rather well charted past. The current owner has been able to piece together a slight history of the car.

It was originally registered in Cardiganshire, Wales in October of 1972 and it stayed there for a period of time. Sadly, there is not much known about the second and third owners but by the time we get to 1989 we onto the fourth owner. It stayed in the Sussex area until 2001 where it moved to Hertfordshire and then made the trip up north to Cheshire. The current owner becomes the 9th and takes it to Berkshire in 2015 to start a restoration process which includes fitting a newer Perkins Prima 2.0 Turbo diesel and taking it down to the bare chassis to repair any places that may have been lost to rust otherwise.

The Paperwork

This Landy comes with its own little diary that documents the restoration period and other parts that have been done to the car over the period of 2015-2020. There are also other little tips within this folder as to what certain parts are and their significance to the car as a whole.

A few details that may be left out of this document is that there have been some more recent works done to the car. These include all wheels have been painted, A partial service has been carried out, a new brake master cylinder has been fitted and a new clutch slave cylinder has also been installed.

The Interior

With this being an older Land Rover you can imagine that the interior follows the function over form motto and thus is a little sparse of creature comforts however if you need a truck to take you across deserts or down country lanes then this has everything you need to hand.

The three seats configuration in the front is in great condition with no tears or rips in the material, within the rear bed it is set up to be more of a people carrier and you will find a couple of extra bench seats so that you can take all of your friends and family on the adventure.

During the restoration period there was a part where the bulkhead had been looked over for repairs, the footwells looked okay but there were two new footwells installed and also the door pillars and feet were put on. One major benefit of this restoration was that the wiring was looked at and re-done to make sure that it was all working perfectly.

The Exterior

This is a proper Land Rover and therefore it looks great from the exterior. During the restoration the current owner was in charge of painting the exterior and they admit that it may not be the best job going, but the exterior colour is the correct Land Rover shade of bronze green. And with the contrasting metal roof and rims it looked stunning.

The owner has also fitted new LED lights all the way round to improve the drivers visibility in the evening which can sometimes be an issue with more classic Land Rovers. There were a few new doors fitted during the restoration and also extensive work carried out on a replacement rear door.

A few fun parts fitted to the exterior included a new galvanised front bumper, galvanised rock sliders and a tow bar.

The Mechanics

There have been a few parts replaced on this Series 3 that will make the car's mechanics excellent. A few parts have recently been replaced; these include the fitment of a new brake master cylinder and a clutch slave cylinder. The added bonus of this being an older Land Rover is that you do not have as many mechanical or electrical faults as a new Land Rover and if you have an issue it is usually easily solved with a screwdriver and some elbow grease.

The major part/change that has been fitted to this Series Landy is the Perkins MDi Prima Engine. A 2.0l turbo diesel engine originally meant to go in Austin cars/vans and is known to go on for around 300,000 miles if serviced correctly. A few stand out features with this new engine include better fuel economy, a smoother power delivery across the rev range, a more responsive engine and better acceleration/top speed so you are able to keep up with modern vehicles on the roads.

The Appeal

The series 3 Land Rover is an icon of the British roads and byways, with the recent and extensive work that has been carried out over the past 5 years by the current owner you can be sure that this truck is at a stage where you can engine worry free motoring.

All the major issues facing an older Land Rover have been addressed and fixed properly this should give the new owner peace of mind that this is a great truck to own. Whether you want to do some green laning or go for a drive in the countryside this truck will do it without asking any questions and will always put a smile on your face doing it!

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
