The Appeal
The sight of W114 and W115 saloons hard at work around the world, decades after they left the factory and often in extreme conditions, attests to the model’s virtual indestructibility. This very tidy 1972 car has led a much more cossetted life, mostly in the dry climes of Oregon, yet is equal proof of the quality and durability of these remarkable cars.
It is a W115 fitted with the robust 2.2L M115 4cyl engine and an automatic gearbox with column shift. The fawn paintwork is a rare choice that works well with the exterior chrome, while inside, there is a nicely preserved blue vinyl interior that retains original features like the cream Bakelite wheel and rare Becker stereo.
We’re told that the car has spent most of its life in Oregon with two keepers. During that time the engine was rebuilt as a precaution, since when it has covered few miles. The car returned to Europe recently and carries USA title. The vendor tells us that European import duties and VAT have been paid. As a pre-1996 car it is reported to be exempt from COC requirements, but will require European registration by the new keeper.
The W115 is one of Paul Bracq’s best designs and one of Mercedes’ most enduring models. Here’s a chance to acquire a very tidy, much-historied example.
