1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado 850

The Highlights

・Comprehensive restoration
・Strengthened crankcase
・5 speed gearbox
・Custom hand pin striping

The Background

The Eldorado was a decent size cruiser bike aimed at those who liked to fulfil long journeys. With its 850cc and claimed 65bhp it wasn’t going to rip your face off but was more than capable of getting down the road.
Its main rival, which competed for the Police contracts for the Harley Davidson FH was 1200cc and in the same region as BHP Eldorado but 800 pounds in weight so the Moto Guzzi 600 pounds felt almost nimble by comparison.

The History

Originally an American market Eldorado, this particular motorcycle spent the first part of its life in New York City in a collection. Since then it has been the subject of a comprehensive and meticulous restoration, incorporating the best of period and modern materials , n.o.s parts , products and engineering to create a concours riders machine.

During the restoration the bike received many new or revived parts and over 300 hours of labour.

The Appeal

The Moto Guzzi Eldorado is a wonderful machine; it has all of the cruising ability of the big Harleys but in a lighter overall package and just as much style.
The Eldorado was specifically imported to the USA to challenge Harley's grip on the large police motorbike contracts and it succeeded in doing just that.
If you are a fan of the Eldorado then this example has to be one of the cleanest ones on the market, the pictures on this one really do all the talking.
