1972 Triumph GT6 Mk3

Highlights

• Recent bodywork improvements
• Stunning Saffron Yellow
• Mechanically in good condition

The Appeal

With only in the region of 13,000 produced, this is not a common car and in this colour combination looks spectacular too. A torquey, 1,996cc, 6 cylinder engine in the front powers the rear wheels with enough power to make this a fun classic for the open road or back road alike. Attended to by a bodywork specialist in February to really enhance the finish and attend to any minor issues means this example is in very good order with just a few marks here and there that could be attended to if the buyer if so desired.

Regularly used for moderate journeys by the vendor, there’s no doubt this is a good useable example and has been made increasingly so by the vendor with regular attention to maintenance and care ready to be

The History and Paperwork

• Vast amount of old MOT certificates
• Up to date MOT
• V5 up to date showing 11 previous owners

A nice history file is present with this Triumph along with a significant amount of MOT certificates dating back decades evidence of regular use, something that classics definitely benefit from.

Quite a lot of paperwork for lots of new parts in the last two years are present, particularly mechanically related and some for interior parts too, some of this includes:

-Brake master cylinder
-Brake hose kit
-Carburettor float & gasket kit
-Radiator re-core
-Distributor & rotor arm
-Radiator hose kit

Much more is included in the list so take your time and look through the pictures included.

The Interior

• Very tidy original looking finish
• Retro stereo upgrade (the vendor reports that it does function but not very well with a lack of sound present)
• Clean and clear gauges and instruments

This interior, we think, suits the car very well and overall is very good for the cars age. The seats are in really good condition with no visible damage or sagging noted and this carries throughout all the soft furnishings with exception for a small 2cm tear in the headlining, nothing that really detracts from the the overall good condition.

You’re first greeted with a wonderful wooden steering wheel with metal inlays and sporty metal spokes. Then to the dashboard you can see this is in nice nick, the vinyl dressing the top has some small splitting in it on the passenger side but this not excessive and for the rest of it, it is very well kept and straight.

The wooden face is as you would expect, seemingly unrestored with some typical fading from the sun but ultimately very very good with light patina. Fitted into the dash are the two SMITHS gauges, both clean and clear withs some light patina on the painted gauge surrounds.

The thick black carpets are in excellent condition, these are fitted tightly with no visible tears or loose areas and the accompanying matching mats have been trimmed around the edge in a black leather/leatherette finish, all in all a pleasing place to be, well kept and clean.

The Exterior

• Recently flatted, polished and painted
• Gorgeous Saffron yellow
• Wire wheels
• Excellent bright work

Very vibrant and striking details makes this GT6 really stand out on the road today, from the rear quarter louvers, the black registration plate mounting panel and the fabulous condition wire wheels. With some paintwork in isolated areas the exterior is very good and vibrant.

Looking down the sides it looks very straight with a good glossy finish that will no doubt please. Areas that have been painted include the lower part of the doors and the sills. The sill faces have been replaced along with a welding repair to the drivers footwell and a repair to the boot lid, but looking at these areas it has all been done to a high standard.

Of course this is not a concourse vehicle and has some blemishes, particularly the front lower edge of the bonnet and also the corner where the bonnet meets the headlamps there is some paint chipping possibly from a too closer fit. It’s to be noted these are not what we would deem excessive and would only require a small touch up to improve the appearance.

Under the bonnet, what we expect to be the original paint finish there is some cracking a but this has not resulted in any corrosion due to its location and in a way just fits the age of the car not really looking out of place, simply being clean and tidy still looks really good and matches the overall aesthetics of the under bonnet appearance.

The Mechanics

• Regularly used and reliable
• Recent brake work
• Stainless steel exhaust
• Upgraded oil cooler & filter housing

Speaking to the vendor he has spent some time and money getting this car up to a more useable and reliable example over the last year or so. As shown in the History & Paperwork section a number of important parts have been renewed to improve this reliability and has since been used for up to 200 mile journeys and more regular 50 mile runs out with out fuss.

Looking around the under bonnet everything is in its place, benefiting from the usual upgrade of a ‘screw-on’ oil filter and an upgraded oil cooler keeping things easier to maintain at home. Some typical oil residue resides on the underside of the engine but not so much that it has got onto the chassis or any rubber bushings. Evidently on the suspension side of things, lots of parts have been renewed over the years as only light corrosion on springs and suspension arms is present, normally something that suffers with age.

Braided brake hoses are a nice touch, keeping the brake pedal feel firm under foot and defiantly more reliable than the rubber alternatives. As noted before, some welding work has been done, not unusual for a classic car, but clearly this was isolated repair as the overall condition of the underside is very good indeed with plenty of life left.

Summary

A very good solid example of a very cool car with little tampering as to its originality. Clean and tidy throughout, recent bodywork where it matters and a very delightfully tidy interior all makes for a practical and useable classic.
The spacious interior and punchy engine would make for a good classic tourer and with attention to reliability on its side too!

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
