The Appeal

These Dodge Travcos are very rare indeed, even in the USA it is a sight to see one of these classic motorhomes pass you by. This Travco has been used and enjoyed by a motorsport enthusiast who would use it to travel the racetracks of Europe, it is now your chance to get behind the wheel and see some amazing sights.

The History and Paperwork

  • Starting life stateside there is a nice level of documentation of its previous life
  • The last known location in the USA was Maryland
  • We know this thanks to an original title still being present in the paperwork
  • Along with an old title, there are also a lot of old leaflets and pamphlets
  • There is also a nice large file of old photos
  • These photos show what the interior was once like
  • This makes it easier to see the full interior overhaul that it has had
  • It leaves the USA for the UK in 2008 and has since experienced three loving owners
  • Now finished in this glorious tribute livery this never fails to turn a few heads
  • There are a lot of invoices present too
  • Within these invoices, you’ll find a large bill from 2016 which indicates a gearbox repair
  • At just under £2,500 this was an extensive repair and should now perform excellently out on the road
  • After 2016 it sits idle for a few years until it was found a few months ago
  • Some slight recommissioning was required to get it running and onto the low-loader to transport it to where it sits today
  • Time to pack your bags and climb aboard

The Interior

  • Upon opening the side door, you are presented with a very spacious and thought out interior
  • Climbing in you are presented with several specific living and driving compartments
  • Let’s start with the driver’s section on the right-hand side of you as you enter
  • Fitted with two large captain-style seats you will be travelling down the road in great comfort
  • The driver’s seat is in excellent condition this condition is then matched by the passenger seats
  • It would appear that the passenger seat will swivel round on its base to allow for extra seating when parked up
  • Between the seats is where you’ll find the 6.7l V8 engine
  • This section is carpeted in a way that you’d expect to find in an actual house
  • Moving slightly behind we enter the living compartment
  • The floor is finished with a nice laminate effect vinyl
  • Just behind the driver’s seat are two seating areas
  • The long sofa is in lovely condition
  • This section will turn into a bunk bed within a few seconds
  • Hooking into two anchor points in the roof this feels solid and a fun section for the kids
  • Just opposite this are two seats that face each other
  • An area for socialising or even dinner these seats will also create an extra bed
  • Easily folding together, they make a space large enough for a comfortable night’s sleep
  • Travelling further back from the front area we move into the kitchen area
  • Equipped with a large worktop and lots of cupboards this is all you could need from a kitchen on wheels
  • You’ll also find a functioning sink, a 3-burner gas hob, and a small oven
  • If you’re standing facing the sink just behind is the bathroom area
  • Within this area, you’ll find a nice sized shower and sink combo along with a toilet
  • Coming out of the toilet and travelling right to the back you’ll find the larger bed section
  • This should provide you with an excellent night’s sleep wherever you should wish to stop and camp
  • Throughout the cabin, there are a lot of lights dotted about
  • Providing a nice warm white glow this interior will be cosy in the evening
  • All running off of the leisure battery they are a nice addition
  • It’s not only lighting that is found throughout, but there are also two large air conditioning units in the roof
  • These are said to work as they should, but have not been tested
  • This is also the same for everything else throughout the interior, we are informed by the previous owner that everything works as it should
  • You will have a lot of fun inside this rare motorhome
  • With a well thought out interior, it does not feel small inside, there is more than enough space to get comfortable and enjoy yourself

The Exterior

  • Well, isn’t this an eye-catching motor vehicle
  • Finished in a lovely Lotus F1 tribute livery there is no way you’ll go un-noticed
  • The fibreglass body appears to be in great shape
  • You may notice a few areas of cracking on the green sticker section
  • With a larger flaking section to be found along the driver’s side
  • Adorn with a lot of chrome this is, on the whole, in good condition
  • There are a few areas on the front and rear bumpers which will require some work if you wish to return it to its former glory
  • All of the hubcaps are present on all four of the wheels
  • There is also a spare wheel holder on the rear of the rear section
  • Along with the spare wheel, there is also a nice full-size ladder
  • This should allow access to the small roof rack area
  • Down the offside at the top, there is a large awning fitted
  • This wasn’t taken out, but it does seem relatively new from the outer casing
  • The underside looks to be nice and solid as well from a quick inspection
  • There are also a few exterior storage areas and plugins
  • You can have a lot of fun working through all of these hidden locations
  • Be in no doubt, you will be the talk of the campsite when you pull up in this

The Mechanics

  • A true American brute there is something truly star-spangled banner about what’s under the body
  • Nestled between the driver and front passenger is a nice big V8
  • At 6.7 litres it has more than enough grunt to pull you down the road
  • Attached to an automatic gearbox it should cruise down the road effortlessly
  • It must be mentioned again that this gearbox was subject to a repair in 2016
  • Since the repair, it hasn’t completed many miles so it should still be in good shape
  • This Travco was started and driven onto the low-loader
  • And was then reversed down the current custodian’s road
  • Since then, it has been sitting waiting for you to come along and take it away
  • It does require some bleeding work to the brakes
  • With some slight work carried out, this will be an excellent and quirky vehicle

Summary

Isn’t this just a wonderfully quirky piece of Americana in the UK? You can just imagine packing up now and going on a stateside inspired road trip to some of the most scenic places Europe has to offer.

You are unlikely to find another Travco in this country, and thanks to its wealth of history and interior overhaul this motorhome is almost ready to go. With some slight recommissioning you will have a great and rare automobile.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
