THE APPEAL

Arguably the most recognised name around the world thanks to big screen fame and motorsport heritage, the Ford Mustang has been plastered over bedroom walls and tool chests ever since its arrival back in 1965. An icon of freedom and style, the pony car ignited the American muscle car category, causing the other large US manufacturers to pioneer something of their own.

This 1973 Mustang Fastback is the last of the first generation Pony and looks fabulous in the red & silver paint combination. The vehicle has been in its current ownership since 2002, used only for show purposes by a classic car specialist.. Like most American muscle cars it brings with it a large presence and creates a stir wherever it roams, the additional quirky USA styling features add to its allure and bring that element of fun and less serious approach to classic muscle cars.

THE INTERIOR

  • Black leather & carpet
  • Areas of wear visible on seats
  • Tear in headliner

Inside the Mustang you’re greeted with a typical 70’s blend of black leather and plastic with a few modern additions such as LED footwell lights and a Sony stereo. There are a few blemishes present on the front seats in the form of a few small tears, the rear has a bit more of a noticeable tear located by where the seat joins the centre. The headliners also contain a tear which has been covered by a flag. Overall, the car is good, with nothing drastic present to cause concern, the additional American accessories come with the car and are part of its fun appeal.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Burgundy Red with Silver stripes
  • Aftermarket rear spoiler
  • Some paint blemishes

For many, the draw of a Mustang is its seductive, aggressive styling, stocky stance and authoritative road presence. It is an American muscle, in all its glory. The burgundy red with silver stripes show off the bulky body fantastically and while there are some blemishes around, mainly on the roof, the car is in good condition. The car also features a side exit exhaust, installed as the original needed replacing, adding further to the Mustang's fun element. Underneath, things look tidy and free from any areas of concern, thanks to the car being stored inside and only used for show days and in dry weather.

THE MECHANICS

  • 4100cc engine 250cu
  • 3 Speed Manual
  • Maintained by classic car specialist owner

During our visit, the car was driven a short distance to a more suitable location for the photography. The 4.1L engine started effortlessly, it manoeuvred out of its garage, providing an enjoyable grunt and confidently made its way down the road. It has been maintained and cared for by the current owner who specialises in classic car mechanics and reports no current mechanical issues and no oil leaks. He has made us aware however that the fuel gauge and centre console clock are not working. In addition, he has also made us aware of the following work that has been carried out within the last few years;

  • Front tyres
  • Brake discs & pads
  • Cylinder pipes
  • Brake master cylinder
  • Front shock absorbers
  • Anti-roll bar bushes
  • Fuel pump
  • Battery
  • Start motor/Solenoid/Charging Regulator
  • Thatcham Immobiliser fitted

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
