 • Repainted 10 years ago
 • Engine out mechanical overhaul
 • Useful engine upgrades

The Appeal

The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic muscle cars the US has produced, recognisable across the world and thanks to Gone in 60 Seconds the Mach 1 gained a reputation as a halo car for the model.

This example stands out in its unusual but original gold paint, which shows its lines off well, and looks to be a solid and rust free example with a great interior and thanks to the refresh and upgrades it’s 5.7 litre V8, a smooth and reliable runner.

This is a very well cared for Mustang, both the current and previous owner of 35 years dry stored the car and looked after it well, not just maintenance, the last owner had the car repainted and the current removed the engine for a full overhaul, also giving it MSD electronic ignition and an MSD Ventura fuel injection carb for reliable running.

Having spent many hours making this car as good as it can be, the owner is now looking for a new project to keep him busy.

The History and Paperwork

 • Re-painted 10 years ago
 • £5000 in parts for recent mechanical overhaul
 • All import paperwork taken care of when brought over
The last owner of the Mustang is a big American car fan, owning several and keeping them well maintained, so this was well looked after. There are receipts for service and maintenance parts such as ball joints in the folder, a new exhaust and he paid for a full respray around 10 years ago.

The current owner took possession in 2019 and decided to give it a mechanical makeover, taking the engine out for an extensive overhaul with many new and upgraded parts, and rebuilt the rear axle, prop shaft as well as fitting new rear air shocks, in total spending over £5000 on parts alone.

The Interior

 • Superb original condition
 • Excellent seats and carpets

The cabin has remained in incredible original condition, with tight fabric on the vinyl seats, which show virtually no wear to the finish, the passenger seat has lost the chrome finishing knob from the seat tipping control but thats the only real fault.

The black carpets with very large hard heel mat areas are in great condition, and has Mustang branded floor mats included.

The door cards, black plastic and vinyl with dark carpet at the base and the same face wood insert as on the dashboard, are in excellent order, and the dashboard, which is pure 1970s style, is black plastic with painted silver high light surrounds and that fake wood, is is great condition and really does evoke the spirit of the era and even features the original Mustang branded radio.

The Exterior

 • Repainted 10 years ago in original colour
 • some micro blisters now showing
 • Great conditional metalwork
 • Period Slot mag wheels
 • Original accessory rear window shade fitted
Finished in the original ‘Golden Glow’ colour which was repainted by the previous owner. It was a good job with a smooth, glossy finish and great bodywork beneath, blemish free panels looking amazing, complete with black side decals and all the Mustang and Mach one badges present. The paint has started to micro blister in a couple of places, although on this colour its hard to spot unless the light catches it.

At the front the bonnet has the factory twin hood scoops and at the back the correct spoiler and accessory rear window sun shade has been added. It also wears period correct chrome Slot Mag alloy wheels, they do have some small marks on the rims and are fitted with good BF Goodrich tyres all round.

The Mechanics

 • Engine out mechanical overhaul
 • Many new performance parts
 • MSD electronic ignition and fuel injection
The current owner spent lock down stripping, rebuilding and upgrading the 351 V8. It has a new camshaft and hydraulic lifters and all mew timing chain and gears and as part of the rebuild got a new oil pump and was finished off with new rocker covers and chrome air filter.
Improved running and performance came courtesy of a pair of four branch exhaust manifolds and a Holley inlet manifold coupled with MSD electronic ignition and an MSD Ventura carburettor look-alike fuel injection unit.

The prop shaft was fitted with new universal joints and the diff had new bearings installed while the suspension received new rear adjustable air shocks and a new anti roll bar.

The owner tells it it runs and drives extremely well after all this work.

Summary

If you are looking for a car to just get in to drive and enjoy, whether drinking in the 70s cool or enjoying the V8 burble, its a car  sure to make an impression in wherever you take it.

Following such an extensive mechanical make over its a car thats ready to be driven and it appears incredibly solid having been garaged for decades, the only fault we can find are the tiny paint defects, and even those are hard to spot.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
