The Appeal

Introduced for the 1971 model year, the 2000 GTV was a natural ascension for the Alfa Romeo 105 coupes - a matter of evolution rather than revolution. After all, why change such a winning formula? These were, in essence, the series’ ultimate development.
With exceptional Bertone styling, twin-cam powerplants and quintessentially seventies interiors, it’s little wonder these have become some beloved classics - 130hp in a car that weighed in at only a hair over a metric ton made it quite a lively proposition - and it’s still capable of raising a few eyebrows in even the most seasoned driver.
This example comes in a charming retro yellow tone that perfectly encapsulates the model’s character, with a fine level of fettle throughout and a charming interior.

  • First registered in the same year

All work has been carried out by Alfa Romeo specialists including:

  • Retro Rosso
  • VEC Racing
  • Francis Niel

  • The vendor reports that around €26,000 of work has been carried out since purchase

The car’s paperwork file includes:

  • A professional valuation report by ClassicExpert from 2020
  • A full index of work taken out along with prices and corresponding mileage
  • Invoice for the sale of the vehicle, confirming its mileage at time of sale
  • Certificate D’immatriculation
  • Document for changie of title in 2016
  • Transfer document, also from 2016
  • An impressive selection of invoices for work and components

The Interior

  • Highly original interior
  • Stylish black interior with ribbed vinyl seats
  • Seats bolsters are free of any substantial wear
  • One small 2cm cut at the top of the driver’s headrest
  • Door frames are clean and well-kept with no major faults
  • Clean, tidy dashboard with wood-effect trim
  • Dashboard is free of cracks or substantial wear
  • Original instruments, save for the oil pressure gauge, rev counters and speedometer
  • These, however, have been replaced like-for-like and don’t break the period character
  • Stylish branded steering wheel and shiftgear
  • Carpets and headlining carry light wear
  • Protected by brand new Alfa Romeo mats
  • All rubber seals are fresh
  • Round the back, the boot is solid and nicely-kept with clean carpets
  • The boot also conceals an excellent spare wheel
Evocative, stylish and beautifully trimmed, this excellent cabin represents the best of 70s’ Alfa Romeo. It’s the perfect level of retro glamour and practicality, creating a very evocative time capsule.
Much of it is entirely original, save the necessary swapped instruments with like-for-like equivalents. The Alfa Romeo mats are newly fitted and really match up nicely.
We can spot some light wear to the carpets, mostly around the sill plates, but by and large, it’s a superb example - one that’s clearly been very well cared for.

The Exterior

  • Impressive Bertone styling
  • Bodywork restoration well carried out
  • Highly original, still in the car’s period Giallo Piper paintwork (code 116)
  • Repainted in 2016 to a very high standard
  • Period-style stickers
  • All Alfa Romeo branding in excellent condition
  • Glasswork and lenses are clean and well-kept
  • Chromework has some patina but still has plenty of shine
  • Bodywork looks in excellent order
  • We can’t spot any signs of corrosion or bubbling
  • The car is sat on its original branded wheels, which are in very good order
  • Excellent Michelin tyres carrying plenty of tread
  • Underneath, the car is in excellent order with no major signs of corrosion
With its bright Giallo Piper paintwork and characterful Bertone styling, this GTV is very glamorous looking motor - thankfully, this one has been kept in a suitable level of luxury, and is in very good order from rooftop to tyres.
With gentle levels of patina to the chromework, and very brightly-presented mustard paint, you’d be forgiven for thinking this car was a time-traveller. It really does look fantastic, and should turn plenty of heads out on the road.
With a good clean underside, plenty of tread on the tyres, and no levels of significant wear to the bodywork, it’ll no doubt prove a very practical car, too.

The Mechanics

  • 2.0L Twin-Cam I4 powerplant
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Timing chain changed at 118000 km
  • Valve adjustment
  • Gearbox completely rebuilt
  • Recently serviced and subject to plenty of mechanical work since purchase
  • Valid Control Technique until 2028
New components include:

  • Clutch
  • Bridge Completely redone
  • Rear axle assembly
  • New bearings
  • Transmission linkage
  • Steering box and column
  • New fuel pump
  • New spark plugs
  • Brakes with new disc, pads and fittings
  • New exhaust assembly
  • Rear suspension
  • Fuel tank
  • New oil and filters throughout
  • Carburettors recently renewed
The perky twin-cam of the GTV is a legend of its own. Popping open the hood of this car reveals the 2.0L unit in excellent order, having been completely restored less than 4,000 kms ago. We understand that the car is driving exactly as expected, and starting first time.
The vendor does note a very slight bit of oil seepage on the rocker arm cover, though this should be an easy job to fix. It certainly doesn’t detract from the overall superb mechanical order of this impressive Italian classic.
Put simply, there’s nothing to raise eyebrows or cause concern - this is an utterly solid Alfa.

Summary

With period styling and a superb eye for detail, this highly-presented GTV is a remarkable piece of automotive history. Picked out in a superb shade of period Mustard yellow, packed with an impressive twin-cam motor, and boasting a cossetting period interior, this is a winner through-and-through.
We’ve no doubt this superb car will get plenty of attention - it’s certainly got ours!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
