The Appeal

A 105 Series Alfa Romeo that’s been breathed upon by Alfaholics is surely at the top of any petrolhead’s wishlist?
Well, this 1974 2000 GTV is sure to get the hearts of Alfisti racing as no expense has been spared in its restoration which has incorporated a multitude of high performance Alfaholics parts. The modified Nord engine alone cost almost £13,000 and features a 1st Series Twin-Spark big valve cylinder head, billet hollow camshafts, forged pistons and rods, race valve springs and a pair of 45 mm Weber carburettors. Just about everything mechanical including the clutch, gearbox, brakes, rear axle and suspension use Alfaholics components and so it comes as no surprise that this GTV is scintillating to drive.
Rotisserie restored and extensively modified by the previous owner, we understand that this Alfa has been used sparingly since completion and so is now in need of a new home. It’s presented in excellent overall condition and would be perfectly suited to fast road or track use. Complete with a substantial collection of invoices, you can appreciate the sheer quantity of work that has gone into making this one of the best driving 2000 GTVs around.

The History and Paperwork

  • Manufactured on 2nd July 1973
  • MOT valid until 1st may 2024 with no advisories
  • Restored and modified to present specification by the previous owner between 2011 and 2014
  • Acquired by the present owner in 2014
  • Carefully stored and apparently used sparingly and only in dry weather ever since
  • We’re informed that the rotisserie restoration work was photographed and a collection of these images accompany the car
  • Complete with a number of parts invoices from Alfaholics, Classic Alfa, Merlin Motorsport and Demon Tweeks as well servicing records from Allon White Sports Cars and Classic Performance Engineering

The Interior

  • The perfect compromise between everyday usability and competition ready equipment
  • Equipped with a roll cage, Sparco competition seats and and TRS harnesses
  • Retains a period correct dashboard, handbrake, gear lever, steering column and headlining
The way this Alfa Romeo’s interior has been executed is in fact rather clever. The previous owner could have opted for a bare-shelled racing car, the likes of which fly around Goodwood, but instead, they’ve struck the perfect balance between performance and usability with all the bits you need for competition, while retaining such comforts as a conventional dashboard, door cards a headlining and even carpets.
Having been used very little since completion, there’s really very little in the way of wear to speak of and it’s evident that all the trimming work has been completed to an exceedingly good standard. We enjoy how many of the controls, including the column stalks, various toggle switches and the gear knob are period correct, lending this Alfa a classic driving feel in spite of its extensive modifications. Enhancements include the Alfa-Holics supplied pedal box and a flocked sports steering wheel. The top of the dashboard has also been given a motorsport-inspired flocked finish and the instrumentation consists of a mixture of OEM and aftermarket gauges. The boot contains a competition-style fuel system feeding the carburettors via braided lines.

The Exterior

  • Restored and repainted Bertone bodywork
  • De-bumpered
  • GTA wheels shod with Yokohama tyres
This car is relatively subtle on the outside too. Okay, we concede that it’s bright red and has a fairly aggressive stance, but there’s not a great deal to distinguish it from a standard 2000 GTV, making it something of a sleeper.
The Bertone bodywork has been beautifully restored which is evidenced by the crisp swage lines and uniform panel alignment. While it has been de-bumpered, there’s still plenty of chrome to be admired and it remains in really good overall condition so far as we could discern.
The vendor points out a small chip on the driver’s side door sill next to the chromed kick plate, although this is barely noticeable. The paint finish is really smart and we couldn’t detect any notable blemishes besides that chip identified by the vendor. The underside is smart too, finished in body colour and with not even a hint of corrosion visible. Having been driven very little and carefully stored, the car remains in excellent overall shape.
The GTA-style wheels are a nice touch and they’re wearing capabel Yokohama tyres which we understand to be in good condition. All the light lenses present well, as does the glass and all the various rubber seals and trims.

The Mechanics

  • 2000 cc Alfaholics modified Nord engine
  • Alfaholics-sourced five-speed gearbox
  • Uprated clutch, gearbox, brakes, rear axle and suspension
  • MOT valid until May 2024
Where this Alfa gets really exciting is when it comes to what’s under the bonnet. Even in standard form, the Nord twin-cam is an engaging engine boasting great performance and characterful tractability, but what Alfaholics have done is to take it to another level.
Correspondence from Alfaholics confirms that this is one of their ‘top spec’ engines, with a 1st Series Twin-Spark big valve cylinder head, billet hollow camshafts, forged pistons and rods, race valve springs and a pair of 45 mm Weber carburettors. There’s also a lightweight flywheel, stainless exhaust, sport clutch kit featuring a race paddle clutch and 3-D mapped ignition. This engine was then rigorously dyno tested and set up prior to fitment, so we’re informed that it’s a simply magnificent unit.
Alfaholics also supplied the five-speed gearbox, steering system, six-pot brakes and suspension which features Bilstein shock absorbers. There’s a raft of additional features, including lightweight wishbones and tracking arms as well as rose-jointed track rods and remote bias adjustment - to name but a few… The substantial collection of invoices provides a full account of specialist parts and you’ll note that no expense was spared in the search of ultimate performance.
We’re informed that it’s incredible to drive; beautifully balanced and with ample performance. It has been recently serviced and MOT tested, so we understand that this car is ready to be used and enjoyed.

Summary

There’s something special about any 105 Series Alfa Romeo which is something that the talented engineers at Alfaholics recognise and dedicate their lives to enhancing. With a multitude of their specially developed components fitted to this 1974 2000 GTV, this is the ultimate driver’s car and we hope its next owner is able to use it as often as possible.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
