The Appeal
The early ‘step front’ 105 coupe is one of Giugiaro’s most celebrated designs, but seeing this elegantly presented ‘74 GT Veloce we’d wager that the revisions he made to create this later car arguably make it look even better.
The Pino Verde paintwork, a tasteful alternative to more common Alfa Red, looks magnificent. It presents at a high level, helped by paint rectification work that was part of a recent recommissioning following dry storage. The tan fluted cloth interior is evocative of the period transporting us back to the golden age for GT motoring. The Personal wood-rimmed wheel and period Sharp radio are original to the car. Eagle-eyed 105 aficionados will find the key check areas present well, such as panel fit, sight lines and arches.
This car is a genuine RHD UK market car, one of only a few hundred 2000 GTVs so registered. It has had just three keepers. The first keeper was London-based from 1974 to 1980, before a London doctor took custody for 38 years. The GTV was in dry storage for approximately the last twelve years. The current vendor acquired the car in 2018 and promptly entrusted it to a specialist for a thorough recommission. This work encompassed refreshing the paintwork, adding the Minilite alloys, powder-coating the suspension components, fitting new rubbers, a new fuel tank, and new brakes. The odometer reads 73,940 miles, which the seller believes is accurate, but this is not verified.
Specialist part suppliers are now plentiful, as are performance agents at making these Alfa’s really sing. Good examples, with their peppy Nord twin cams, make excellent touring and show cars. This example ticks a lot of boxes.
