The Appeal
The genuine factory Westfalia has long been regarded as the one to shoot for when it comes to the Volkswagen Type Two. A proper, purpose-built home on wheels with the full complement of cabinetry, cooking facilities and pop-top roof. To this day, it's synonymous with the spirit of the open road. Park it up in a field, get a full English on the go, and you've unlocked a genuinely aspirational lifestyle where less is more.
This 1974 example wears the elusive Yosemite Yellow - a US-spec colour believed to have been offered for that model year only, and one that divides opinion as to whether it's truly yellow or leans towards green. Whichever side you fall on, it's certainly handsome and suits the Type 2 to the ground.
German-built and originally exported to the USA, this handsome car spent its earlier life in the dry climate of Arizona before being imported to the UK in 2007, at which point a comprehensive refurbishment to original specification was undertaken. That work included a refurbished engine and gearbox, an interior retrim believed correct for the model, and chassis protection, all of which is documented in an accompanying folder of paperwork.
Since the refurbishment, the van is believed to have covered only around 21,000 miles. A little work on the body wouldn't go amiss, but the chassis is reported to be in good order and the fundamentals are sound. A rare US-spec genuine Westfalia, ready for camping duties and ripe for further improvement. Not one to miss!image.png1.32 MB
