The Appeal
Bursting onto the scene at a time when British manufacturers were still working with rudimentary pushrod twins, the Kawasaki Z1’s transverse 900cc inline-four-cylinder twin-cam, five-speed gearbox and electric start must have been quite the revelation. It’s no wonder that Japanese motorcycles like the Z1 and Honda CB750 are deemed responsible for the demise of the once world-leading British bike industry. When you consider how far behind they were technologically, the likes of BSA, Triumph and Norton hardly stood a chance.
We’re delighted to offer what must be one of the very best original Z1s in existence. It’s one of the desirable Z1-Bs, introduced for the 1975 model year with increased performance, improved suspension, brakes and a stiffer frame. The bike has covered a mere 12,685 miles and retains its factory paint and chrome.
Those who know their classic Japanese bikes will know it’s practically impossible to find a Z1 this original with such low mileage. When the vendor first test-rode this one four and a half years ago, they remarked that it was “like riding a Rolls-Royce”. They simply had to buy it. Since then, the Kawasaki has been serviced by the same specialist the vendor acquired it from and we’re assured that it continues to start, run and ride impeccably.
