The Appeal
A regular MGB is a fine thing. Beautiful Italianate styling, and great handling make it a lovely little sports car. But where it falls down is in the engine compartment. The standard 1.8-litre B Series isn't a bad engine by any means, but it lacks the grunt to make the MGB the performance car it could have been. That's where the lesser-seen V8 variant comes up trumps.
The GT V8 is one of the most desirable iterations of the beloved MGB, combining the practicality and style of the GT coupé body with the performance and character of Rover's legendary 3.5-litre V8 engine. Factory-built examples are relatively uncommon, making them highly sought after by enthusiasts who appreciate the model's blend of British sports car charm and effortless V8 power.
This 1975 example comes to market having benefited from considerable mechanical investment and care during recent ownership. The car has undergone extensive work to ensure reliability and driving enjoyment, including a replacement engine block in 2019 due to severe corrosion, with V5C and engine numbers matching. Further work in 2022 saw the left bank rebuilt, carburettors rebuilt and retuned, and new front bearings, prop shaft and bearings fitted. Most recently, in 2025, all bushes and shackles were replaced, representing a comprehensive suspension refresh.
The car retains its original engine specification without modification. The interior has been thoughtfully refurbished with new seat foams and carpets fitted in 2023-2024, while the wheels were refurbished in 2024. History is reportedly available from 1987, providing good documentation of the car's past.
The GT is reported to drive well and attract comments at car meets. With MOT valid to November 2026 and the benefit of recent comprehensive mechanical work, this MGB GT V8 presents an appealing opportunity to MG's British muscle car.image.png1.27 MB
