HISTORY

The Triumph TR6 was one of the last true British sportscars built by the Triumph Motor Company between 1969 and 1976, and they made 91,850, of which only 8,370 remained in the UK with the large majority being exported.

The UK version could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds and had a top speed of 120 mph.

Powered by their smooth petrol-injected 2.5 litre straight six, they delivered great classic looks with a decent amount of performance for a reasonable price and it was Triumph’s most popular and best selling ‘TR’ of the whole ‘TR’ series.

BACKGROUND

The current owner bought this TR6 in 2002 and has used the car only during summer months, keeping it garaged at all times and never taking it out in the rain.

The speedometer had been changed at 92,419 miles and with the current reading, the actual current mileage is therefore 136,000. It had been re-sprayed in its original colour of Pimento Red prior to his purchase and the receipts and invoices that came with the car showed that it had had regular servicing and maintenance but had never been the subject of any major restoration.

The car has had light use over the last 19 years and has been regularly serviced and maintained with anything needing to be done carried out by local specialist garages.

It’s had various items changed over the years, an alternator, radiator, battery, fuel pump etc and has always passed each year’s MOT with flying colours and has never required any welding.

The car is a nice, honest and original car and has the benefit of an overdrive on third and fourth gear.

PAPERWORK

The V5 shows 8 previous keepers and the car is registered as an Historic Vehicle with its current MOT expiring in June 2022.

The car comes with an original owner’s handbook and service manual together with an extensive history file, which includes countless receipts, MOTs and Tax Discs through the years.

There are 2 sets of keys and the car comes with a soft top, tonneau cover and a hood cover for when it’s down.

INTERIOR

The interior has been kept original with only the seats receiving some new internals and cushioning whilst retaining the original black leather with red piping covers.

The rest of the interior does show its age but, perhaps other than the worn carpeting, hides that age very well and just has that nice, well worn in, feel about it.

The classic wooden dashboard is warp free and all the instruments, gauges and switches all look good and are reported to all work as they should.

The walnut Mota Lita steering wheel is a nice additional touch and, for those seeking total originality, the original Radiomobile Radio/Cassette player is still there and still works.

EXTERIOR

The Pimento Red paint really helps show off the clean muscular lines of the TR6 and, although far from perfect as the detailed photographs show, the overall impression is good.

The chrome bumpers and various fittings and light surrounds are again, far from perfect, but then most of them are all original fittings and for their age, are more than acceptable.

The original wheels have recently been shot blasted and stove enamelled and all still look in great condition and all have good tyres fitted. The headlights are clear and crack free and the hood fits well and tight.

MECHANICS

The car has just recently been serviced and is in good roadworthy condition with the owner reporting no known issues or problems that would need to be dealt with.

The engine bay is all original and shows its age probably more than the rest of the car. There is evidence of oil leakages here and there which is not uncommon, and the white powder is a rust preventative but everything works and functions correctly and a good clean and tidy up would improve the overall look quite easily.

A car of this age will always need a few things doing over time and there is good availability of TR6 spares and many Triumph Clubs available to join for ownership advice and help with any issues.

The simple mechanics and good access around the engine make the TR6 an easy car to live with and work on.

The engine has never been modified to accept and run on unleaded fuel so use of a lead additive is required.

APPEAL

This is a nice unmodified, unrestored original example of a very popular classic British roadster that embodies much of the style and character from that era of motoring, and is widely regarded as Triumph’s best ever TR.

They are quick and agile enough for modern day traffic and their place in the history of British sports cars is without doubt so, in addition to being an easy car to live with, they should only continue to rise in value and demand over the years to come.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
