The Appeal
No car quite sums up sun, spirited weekends away and la dolce vita quite like Alfa Romeo’s beautiful 105-Series Spider. The second generation modernised the styling with an influential ‘Kamm’ tail and larger, more powerful versions of Alfa’s characterful twin-cam ‘Nord’ engine, with its lovely crackle on the overrun.
Good examples are amongst the best classic roadsters you can buy, arguably at any price. Here is a chance to prove it with a really tidy, well-presented Series 2 with the 2L motor. Classically finished in Alfa Red with a rare tan interior, it checks out well in the usual areas, no doubt due to its life in a warm climate.
The history file shows regular work by Italian specialists in Cape Town and Hermanus, notably a top-end engine overhaul in 2003 and new propshaft in 2007. It has been rarely used and dry-stored in recent years. Notable recent work includes service, carburettor overhaul and general checks in 2021 followed by new clutch slave and master cylinders, electrical repairs and a new caliper in 2024. A new genuine Alfa Romeo soft top has been fitted, and a good collection of service records accompanies the car.
The vendor says:
“This vehicle has been owned for 20 years by the same owner. He has now downscaled, and the Alfa doesn't fit in with his future plans, storage-wise, etc. He has continually maintained it, even though he has only driven it occasionally.
“Not only is it a beautiful example, but it's an amazing drive.”
