The Appeal

Renowned for producing some of the most stunning and technically advanced vehicles of their time, Alfa Romeo has one of the most celebrated histories in the motoring world. The Alfa Spider is one of the best known and longest-lived models with production spanning 28 years.
In the early 70s, Alfa made significant changes to the styling of the Spider, removing the original distinctive round tail for a more aerodynamic rear known as the “Kamm tail’ which is said to improve aerodynamics and the car’s overall performance.
Small, compact, and a four seater roadster, the Alfa Spider is bursting with Italian charm and style. It’s the perfect car to use as a daily driver or simply head out for a drive at the weekend with the roof down. The ease of driving comes from a powerful and torquey 2 litre engine.
Garage stored during ownership, this ’76 Series 2 Alfa Spider is ready to continue its journey with someone new.

The History And Paperwork

  • Registered In 1976
  • Stacks Of Invoices
  • Recent Engine Service
A lot of time, effort and expenditure has been invested on this Alfa to maintain the way the vehicle drives and handles on the road. The car comes with a folder full of paperwork and invoices.
Replacements of key components varying from the suspension, brakes, differential and engine was carried out recently this year.
The paperwork indicates that welding has been completed to the offside rear chassis and offside front crossmember with the most recent to the nearside chassis rail.
The car recently benefited from an engine service which included an oil and filter change and four new spark plugs.

The Interior

  • Original Black Leather
  • Alpine Audio System
Alfa have always made great interiors and many years on, it is clearly reflected. The leather finish that surrounds the cabin of the car is in amazing condition with no obvious signs of wear, scoring or scratches to be found.
The seats, match the rest of the interior; for their age they are in great condition and show no signs of wear in either bolsters and there are no rips or scores that we could see.
The headlining on the underside of the convertible roof is still in great shape and so is the cover that protects the roof when you’re driving around with the top down.
We are informed that all the switches, instruments and warning lights operate as they should and that the pedals, gearstick and steering wheel, with the exception of a small mark on the centre are in fair condition.

The Exterior

  • Deep Red Paintwork
  • Convertible Roof
  • Great Condition Overall
The Alfa Spider looks fantastic from every angle and is a true classic. The paintwork on the car is in fantastic condition and it is obvious that it has been greatly cared for. It glistens and shines beautifully in the sunlight enhancing the red paintwork even further.
The panels are straight, the gaps between the panels are even. The chrome trims that surround the exterior of the Alfa Spider are in great condition and show no obvious signs of pitting or corrosion.
Underneath, the car is rather clean with no signs of corrosion. It does show that at some point the car has been undersealed to protect the framework from the elements.
Overall the condition of the Alfa is excellent.

The Mechanics

  • Considerable Recent Expenditure
  • Suspension Overhaul
  • Recent Mot
The seller notes that the 2000 engine starts readily and idles as it should do. There is no oily smoke or noises that would suggest the engine is unfit for the road.
Mechanically speaking, the car has just undergone a substantial amount of work to ensure that it drives correctly and behaves as it was intended when it left the workshop floor in 1976. Parts that are susceptible to wear and tear such as the differential have been subject to a recent refresh.
The car has received a considerable amount of mechanical attention.

SUMMARY

An appreciating asset that would look good in any enthusiasts garage. This 1976 Alfa Spider is in exceptionally good condition on the inside and out. Given the age of the vehicle, it is rare to come across one that has been looked after and cared to the level that this example has been.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
