The Appeal
In 1976, when this Mk2 Escort originally rolled off the production line, Ford was at the dawn of the car’s dominance of the RAC Rally, which Clark, Mäkinen, Waldegård, and Mikkola would go on to win every year from ‘75 to ‘80. The Mk2 RS1800 would also nab the ‘79 and ‘81 WRC titles before the Quattro changed the game.
These light, agile, powerful cars are, then, the absolute pinnacle of rallying’s RWD era. This fabulous car has been professionally converted to tarmac rally specification and carries genuine competition provenance. Mr P. Paradisis rallied it in Greece, and it reportedly took part in the 2013 Athens Rally Sprint.
Finished in mid blue with a light smattering of decals, it looks the part both on and off the stage. The vendor states the shell has never been welded — a notable claim for any Mk2 Escort, let alone one that has seen competitive use. For those seeking a ready-to-enjoy historic rally car with real character, this is one to savour.
The vendor says:
“Engine runs well; highly modified Pinto on twin 48-inch Weber carburettors. Love the look of the vehicle; drives like a rally car.”
