The Appeal

The Lancia Fulvia Coupe is an automotive legend, through and through. With rally championships under its belt, and an eleven-year production history, these attractive cars went on to act as ambassadors for the Lancia brand. As the years went on, relatively little changed save for larger engines, minor facelifts and new trims. After all, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it…
This example has come to us in an impressive, bright livery with some customisations undertaken by a very dedicated enthusiast. With superb paintwork and its original components provided with the sale, this is an incredible opportunity to get a legendary Italian machine into your fleet.

The History and Paperwork

  •  1976 construction date
  •  Previous owners purportedly include the father of Peter Mandelson and the Stondon Collection
  •  Exhibited with the Stondon collection from 2001 until the museum’s closure in 2016
  •  Upon sale in 2016 it has been given a full restoration
  •  Comes with original Lancia Fulvia instruction booklet
  •  Sale includes Fulvia Repair Shop Manual
  •  Also includes Fulvia sales brochure
  •  Despite being exempt, car has a valid MOT until March 2022

The Interior

  •  Restored interior with largely original components and a new carpet
  •  Beautifully presented black upholstery to the seats and door cards
  •  Wood veneered dashboard shows some wear - a newly refurbished replacement, to original specification, is included in the sale
The Fulvia’s interior has always been very well-reputed, with comfortable bucket seats and wood veneers setting a classy tone for an undoubtedly stylish car. This example is still in superb order and presents very nicely - with the only fault being a worn dash, for which the vendor is providing a replacement.
The black vinyl bucket seating looks to be in superb order, little sign of wear, scuffs or tears. This is also the case with the plush rear bench seat. It looks to be in superb order throughout without betraying its age. The replacement carpets are in excellent order also, with no rips or tears that we can discern.
The door cards are showing some slight wear, with the occasional dip in the padding, some rubbing to the handles and some patina to the chromework.
The dashboard, meanwhile, is in decent order with the wood veneer having lost much of its lacquer. However, all of the original Veglia dials and instruments are clean, bright and easy to read. The occasional knob or switch is showing a level of wear, but this does not detract from the car’s overall appearance.
The replica steering wheel features a wooden trim, as does the stick shift knob - the former is a replica, while the original steering wheel is included in the car’s sale.
Finally, the boot is in fine fettle with a good spare wheel. Ultimately, this is a superb example of a very well-kept interior, fitting with the impressive level of care this car has been treated to.

The Exterior

  • Beautifully presented in a rich blue colour scheme, repainted from the car’s original red
  •  Fitted with a chrome grill rather than the model’s traditional black - original included in sale
  •  Yellow headlights and chrome bumpers in superb condition
Brightly presented, and boasting an impressive level of restoration, this Fulvia appears to be in utterly superb condition. With that bright blue paintwork, those yellow headlight protectors and that smattering of brightly presented chrome, this is a real head-turner.
The paintwork is beautifully presented with only very minor blemishes we can highlight. The bodywork itself is showing few signs of wear, with only minor chips and marks being visible on the door edges and the front valance, unseen under the front bumper. There is a small chip near the bonnet mechanism, though we note that this is not visible when the bonnet is closed.
The matte black grille that denotes the Lancia 1.3 is swapped over here with a bright chrome example, taken from a Series 2. All of the chrome work displays very nicely with a gentle patina, and contrasts beautifully against the blue paintwork. Plus, if you do prefer the black grille, it’s included with the sale!
The car is sitting on a set of original Cromadora magnesium wheels, which have been recently refurbished. They’ve been furnished with new centre caps and a new set of tyres that have barely done 300 miles. The seller is also providing the original steel wheels with new tyres and caps.
Underneath, we’re informed the car is in excellent condition with no structural faults and no corrosion, something attributed to the recent restoration, rust proofing and low post-restoration mileage.

The Mechanics

  • Powered by Lancia’s V4 1,298cc engine, pumping out 89hp
  •  5-speed manual gearbox
  •  Most mechanical components have been replaced or refurbished
  •  Brakes, suspension and cooling system all completely refurbished and restored
  •  Engine bay looks to be in superb order with no obvious faults
  •  Vendor reports the car is free of leaks, smoke or suspect noises

The Fulvia was heavily praised for its mechanics. This example has been treated accordingly, having experienced a pampering refurbishment and restoration that’s brought it back to full glory. It’s a superb prospect for the lucky buyer.

Summary

Hugely impressive, and beautifully restored, this Coupe 3 is one of the finest examples of the model that we’ve seen. Whether you opt to keep it in its post-restoration appearance, or refit the original wheels and grill, you’ve got a superb looker on your hands.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
