The Appeal

As one of Suzuki’s well-renowned GT bikes from the ’70s, the GT550 (otherwise known as the Indy in American markets) still stands as one of the most enjoyable classic bikes to own. Fitted with unique tech such as the ram-air cooling system and Crankcase Cylinder Injection, this bike is still a very capable contender out on the open road. This particular example has been treasured as part of a collection, and performs brilliantly, partly thanks to a recent engine rebuild.
If you’re looking for a gorgeous classic Suzuki, that shows off plenty of capable tech and a gorgeous finish, this GT550 is a brilliant choice.

The History and Paperwork

  • Just 2 former keepers
  • Low mileage shown
  • Well maintained example
  • Cared for as part of a collection
  • Previous winner at a classic bike show
This GT550 has been enjoyed by just 2 former keepers as noted on the V5, and now shows a reading of around 16,200 miles on the clock. Based on the available MOT history, this mileage appears to be correct, in keeping with an average of approximately 300 miles covered annually.
Throughout its time with the current keeper, the bike has been treasured as part of a classic collection, receiving plenty of care along the way. Included with the vehicle is a collection of invoices detailing previous maintenance, such as an engine rebuild in 2015. Also included with the vehicle is an original Haynes manual, previous MOT certificates, and the V5C document.

The Exterior

  • Excellent condition
  • Classic 70’s GT styling
  • Plenty of restored components
This GT550 is a wonderful example of everything we love about 70’s styling, with the addition of a unique double exhaust system, and the iconic ram-air unit towards the front. Having been well cared for over the years and treated to plenty of restored components, the exterior is in excellent condition, with only a few incredibly minor defects to note, such as ever-so-slight markings on the fuel tank, near the Suzuki badge.
Otherwise, the exterior looks fantastic, showing off plenty of shiny chrome, a relatively unused seat, clear light lenses, and tidy wheels. The wheels have no doubt been rebuilt/restored in the past, and now show off a near-perfect chromed finish.
This bike can hardly be faulted for its exterior condition, as proven by a previous award for “best in show” at a classic bike show in 2016.

The Mechanics

  • 544cc two-stroke triple
  • 5-Speed gearbox
  • Rebuilt engine
  • Ram-air system
  • Crankcase Cylinder Injection
The GT550 was of course designed with touring in mind and came fitted with a rather under-stressed air-cooled triple. Suzuki also fitted the bike with crucial features like its ram-air cooling system, CCI system, and SRIS to prevent visible smoke.
Buyers will be pleased to know that this bike lives up to Suzuki’s expectations, and still performs fantastically, with no known faults. As mentioned earlier, the bike benefits from a great deal of care and maintenance, including the likes of a rebuilt engine, and typical consumables. The bike has also been recently serviced and is ready to be enjoyed out on the open road.

Summary

This GT550 presents a brilliant chance to own one of the more iconic Japanese motorcycles, one capable of offering excellent touring reliability and classy styling. This bike has been well cared for and maintained over the years, and now performs without a single known fault. If you’re looking for a show-winning bike to hit the open road with this Summer, consider this your first choice.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
